O mnie

Ja, o mnie i jeszcze raz ja
The West Dunbartonshire Youth Trust is an exciting and unique project that offers young people the opportunity to become active citizens in their community. It was created in 2004 with Better Neighbourhood Services Fund, to provide young people, aged 12 - 25 with resources to develop the services and facilities that they want to see in the area.

The Youth Trust aims to fund ideas that come from young people and are about young people and to date has given out over £200,000 in grants to services that support young people.

The project is managed by young people, who have shown dedication and skill over the last three years. We continue to develop the project to offer young people training opportunities and work experience placements

  • Youth Trust Summer Programme '07

This summer we have been involved in a variety of activities. These have been rewarding and good fun.

    Mountain Biking

    Colin McPhie
We went to Aberfoyle on the 11th of July to go Mountain biking. It was quite a good experience but tiring, in the end we made it. I enjoyed trying to direct my way about and keeping up. I thought that it would have been an easy journey but I was proven wrong. I learned that I have endurance to keep going on and to push my body to further limits. I enjoyed the whole experience it made my summer holidays better rather than working.

    Gorge Walking

We went gorge walking in Carbeth in an area called the Devils poolpit.the gorge was between 10 and 100 ft deep we start the walk at 12pm and finished at 5pm the gorge walk was really fun and exciting.

“I’m Gary the chairperson on the Youth Trust Advisory Group. This summer we took part in a summer programme in which we went gorge walking. I expected it to be jumping waterfalls, but it was more swimming through a gorge. Gorge walking was brilliant and was a good laugh. Gorge building was a great team building activity. He best bit was the whole experience; the highlight was basically just the full day. The gorge walking took place at the Devils Pulpit and the instructors were from DRUM Adventure. I got to know the group a bit more and learned to work in a team and how to climb waterfalls. After Gorge walking I feel more confident about trying new things, this gave me something to do during the summer holidays and made the summer holidays more enjoyable.”

    Drew Hamilton – Gorge Walking

My name is drew Hamilton I am a member of the Youth Trust. My expectations of gorge walking was walking in a puddle, but you we were mostly swimming, it was a great experience. The best part was when we started jumping from the cliff into the water! The water was a green colour and the bit we were jumping into was very deep. I also enjoyed swimming in very deep water it was cool!
The two instructors who took us were both called Stuart one of them stole my inhaler! This experience made the summer holidays much more fun!

    Xscape
We went to an activity centre in Renfrewshire call Xscape. We did tobogganing which was really fun as we were sledging down the hill in the snow. We also did the Skypark fan drop and rock climbing.

“The Youth Trust all took a visit to Xscape on the 18th of July 2007.
Our second activity was tobogganing; tobogganing is a sport that you play on snow. Tobogganing is a similar sport to sledging, when you sit on a sledge and slide down a snowy bit of hill. I enjoyed the activity I felt that I had learned something new like how to steer down a hill using your own strength. However the day ended with a crash Bang wallop! We all skidded down the hill and crashed through the net and landed in a heap! I looked up in a fit of laughter and my life flashed before my eyes. A mallet fell onto my face, my mouth was gushing of blood, I looked over to my friend Karen and seen that she was in pain, she had twisted her leg, so me & Karen were in the first aid room getting fixed. Overall the day was fun and if I had never went to escape I would have been sitting about doing nothing. So thank you Youth Trust for saving my holiday and making it fun!”

    Jenny Clark – Sky Park

We went to the Sky Park at Xscape one the 18th July 2007. At the Sky Park we got strapped into harnesses and we had to make our way round the course that was suspended from the ceiling and was 50ft from the floor. When we got back to the beginning we had to do different things like going round backwards, closing our eyes and just doing it with our feet. My best bit of this activity was at the end when we did the fan drop. The instructors made us shout things when we were jumping off like “Haggis & Tatties”. I had never been to Xscape before so I didn’t know what to expect, and I don’t think I have go

  • The Banter
    The Banter

The volunteer centre in West Dunbartonshire has just launched a new youth project for 12-25 year olds in the area.

The project encourages young people to design and produce their own magazine for their peers.

‘The Banter’ is an A5 full colour publication including music, film and game reviews as well as topical articles and promotion of voluntary opportunities in the community.

We’ve just distributed the first edition of this non-profit volunteers’ magazine in the 6 schools, college and community centres across West Dunbartonshire, and we are currently recruiting several volunteers and supporters for the magazine.

If you'd like to write an article or advertise in the magazine please get in contact at WDCVS
