Waveriders wins at the surfer poll awards!!
WAVERIDERS has won the prestigious Best Documentary Award at the 2009 SURFER POLL & VIDEO AWARDS. The annual event, often coined the “Academy Awards of Surfing”, honours the pinnacle of surf culture and according to Surfmag.com “is unquestionably the surf world's biggest night out”.
The top Video Awards were selected by a jury of surf film experts including major surf filmmakers, World Champion surfers, members of the SURFER Magazine editorial staff, and additional respected industry leaders. Speaking about the award, the Jury commented that WAVERIDERS take on the surf culture from an Irish perspective was “the most gripping and artful story of the bunch”.
Producer Margo Harkin said of the win "It was pure joy watching Joel's face last night as he picked up Best Documentary in the Surfer Poll Awards in California. This is just huge for us as America is hard to crack in any film genre and this award automatically brings our film to a much wider audience around the world. 37th Annual SURFER Poll and Video Awards
Great news announced today - Waveriders has received two nominations for ‘Best Documentary’ and ‘Heavy Water’ (Big Wave) at the 37th Annual SURFER Poll and Video Awards! The event represents the pinnacle of surf culture as the achievements of directors, cinematographers, and the world's best surfers are celebrated.
There will be a live webcast from the Grove of Anaheim in Los Angeles on Tuesday 15th September 2009 at 7pm (PST) / 2am (GMT) on the Surfer Poll website http://www.surferpoll.com/.

Was up at the cliffs of moher over the weekend workin with 7up and the moherman to promote it as a 7th wonder of the world...get voting..on www.7upfree.ie ....those last clips of aileens in the film were unreal...wowza!! looking at it in the film and in person, it scares me sh!tless, wish i had the guts to surf it!! go see the film everyone! fantastico!!!!
