Competition os just as tough for helicopter pilots as it is for fixed wing, as for a large chunk of the training period, you will train together. To get selected for helicopter pilot will depend on your choices and abilities, as well as the service need. During training, you will be streamed into Fast Jets, Multi-Engine or Rotary. So yes, it is still as tough to become a helicopter pilot as it's a popular choice for trainee pilots.
It doesn't matter if you have B's at A Level and someone has A's. The selection is based on various factors, such as aptitude, leadership and management ability, medical fitness, ability to follow instructions, time management, knowledge of current affairs and worls outlook amongst other things, and not a test of educational ability. So if you have what it takes, your grades are immaterial. You may breeze the process and the person with A's may not!

At this moment, it's not confirmed if the Vulcan is going to Fairford. Best thing is to keep checking the RIAT or RAF websites.

just passed my PRTC last wed/thurs n fri, and i have the dates for my final interview, any advice you could give me for preparing for it ??
Hello
I am verry keen to becoming a Helicopter pilot. Is the competition still tough to becoming a helicopter pilot as it is fixed wing? Also i am predicted B's at A level, if some1 was interviewd after me and had A's at A level, would they have any advantage over me, or do they pick on more of a 1st impression and personality basis aslong as you have the minimum grades required? I'd Be very greatful if you got back to me. Thanks.
hi, cant wait until farford
just wondering, is the Vulcan 100% definately going?
any1 got there prertc on 27 of august add me lol

18/6/09 It is a gamble. There is no guarantee you will not be working that weekend. During training, weekends home can be cancelled at any point. Also, if you were to be back-flighted it's possible you would be taken back to a stage of training where you work weekends. It is up to you whether you keep the dates as they are or change one of them so they do not coincide. I would speak to the recruiter in your AFCO and make a decision after that discussion.

18/06/2009 Once you are out of training and into your first posting you can live either on camp in service accommodation or if you prefer you can live in your own accommodation. As long as you are not on duty your time is your own. As a single person you are entitled to a room in the block. It is only if you are married or in a civil partnership you are entitled to a 'married quarter'. There is no age limit.

18/6/09 You can chat to people about your own feelings and experiences. If there are any questions on the recruitment process or policy you should direct them to their AFCO, the RAF Careers website or Bebo/Twitter/Facebook where there are RAF Recruiters who can provide up to date advice and information.
