The Rotterdam <TheRotterdamB>
"But you don't really care for music do ya?"

The Rotterdam is a bar on Pilot Street in Belfast.
It was founded in 1827 and has been a spiritual home for many local musicians, either established, or up and coming for over 30 years.
Recently The Rotterdam has been suject of modern day refurbishment, as it was on the verge of closure recently, to be rennovated into apartment blocks. However in June 2007, former manager Chris Roddy managed to gain a new lease for the bar for 12 months, in the hope that renewed interest along with former residents, could inspire people to help Save the Rotterdam.
World Famous acts such as Bob Dylan, Snow Patrol, Dukes Special, and David Gray have graced the Dockside Bar in previous years, and it is hoped that other famous acts will follow soon.

The Rotterdam Bar is based on Pilot Street in Belfast, beside the Stena Line ferry Terminus.

The Rotterdam is exactly how you imagine all Irish bars should be with its roaring fire, stone floor and low ceiling. And, of course, it serves great Guinness Chris Sherry, Ulster Tatler & easyJet
Reasons to come to the Rotterdam...
first of all, coming to the rotterdam will give you higher status and people will generally respect you more if they know you have been, if you don't believe me, try it. Also because there is alwys great banter, if your on your own and your bored there will always be someone to talk to. And best of all, the great looking staff, especially the Roddys, famous for there good looks.

More on the Rotterdam
As many of you will already be aware, following extended disputes with the landlords over their interference in our business practices, the Rotterdam Bar and Pat's Bar is no longer anything to do with the Roddy / Martyn partnership.

Control of the bars have now been handed back to Mr. Arthur Mooney, a rather inaffable Belfast hotelier and property developer who intends to demolish both of the buildings the minute he has all the relevant planning permissions in place. I hear he now also owns The Rosetta and has similar plans for more apartments on that site!

Having had a look at the planning application, it seems that the objections to the proposed development by the DOE, Belfast City Council and Belfast Harbour Commissioners are the reason why their building programme is moving at a slow pace. There are letters in the planning file from experts in the relevant fields stating that the building is of no real archaeological interest. Historic Buildings also state that the building is not unique in structure. It has to be noted that here are no comments on the 29 (only 29? How so?) objections on the grounds of social history initiated by Ludwig and his campaigners whom, I might add, we wholeheartedly support. So the idea that the bar was 'saved' by the efforts of the Save The Rotterdam campaign is unfounded.
I keep hearing whispers that we are involved in some malicious rumour to try to discredit the current goings on in the bar. Not so. Those who know us are well aware that we don't easily engage in negativity and are putting our combined energies into getting a business up an running again in another location. Just like all the rest of you, its the music that drives us.

Once again we would like to wholeheartedly thank everyone who has supported our efforts to keep the Rotterdam music scene up to the standard that we achieved in the last ten months. Especially the musicians both established and beginners. Believe me when I say that we did our utmost to offer them all the hospitality and respect that they deserve and we wish them all the best in their futures. We also give heartfelt thanks to the staff who kept the engines running and the fire burning, sometimes against all the odds (anyone wanna go down the sewers?!!). But it would never have gotten off the ground without the support of the public, regulars and otherwise, who were the lifeblood of our business.

IF YOU HOLD TICKETS FOR ANY CANCELLED EVENTS, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH VIA MYSPACE AND WE WILL ARRANGE A REFUND.

The Rotterdam Bar's Situation...
As many of you will already be aware, following extended disputes with the landlords over their interference in our business practices, the Rotterdam Bar and Pat's Bar ceased trading on Saturday last.

Control of the bars have now been handed back to Mr. Arthur Mooney, a Belfast hotelier and property developer who intends to demolish both of the buildings the minute he has all the relevant planning permissions in place.

We would like to wholeheartedly thank everyone who has supported our efforts to keep the Rotterdam music scene up to the standard that we achieved in the last ten months.

I have to point out that Mooney & co will now manage the businesses themselves, so the profit from every pint you purchase in these pubs from now on will go straight into the pockets of those who cannot wait to see these historic Sailortown premises demolished.

We do intend to return with the same ethos, maybe not to Sailortown, but possibly not too far away. Watch this space....!

THE ANDY McKEE GIG ON MONDAY 5th MAY WILL BE RELOCATED TO ANOTHER VENUE (DETAILS TOMORROW). ALL OTHER SHOWS ARE CANCELLED.
IF YOU HOLD TICKETS FOR ANY FORTHCOMING EVENTS, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH VIA MYSPACE AND WE WILL ARRANGE A REFUND.

What Is Your Partying Personality?

Wild Alcoholic

You alway consume the most beer at the party. You party to drink, and you drink to party. While we are all impressed by your drinking abilities, some of us are worried that you'll need an intervention if you are going to quit the habit. At the end of the night, we will find you passed out on a sofa, mumbling, and smelling of cheap whiskey.

kiss the rott bye bye. The new management have just lost the little last bit of life and soul left in the bar. Because of their ignorance and stupidity the bar has lost its life blood, (the regulars and musicians alike). FUCK THE "NEW" ROTTERDAM BAR!
They told me that the bar would be cleaned "properly" everyday, LIES, they told me that the bar would be run "properly and efficiently", LIES and they told me that it would be the same if not better, musicaly and in terms of havin a good time, well guess what, they talk absolute SHITE. Im done with the rott man, fuck it.

Bye Bye rotterdam bar, over the years you raised me better than parents or tv ever could.

aught. There's any amount of words that could be used to surmise how I feel about the closure of the fine Emporium that was The Rotterdam.
Without doubt, the coolest and creamiest pints of Arthur G. in Belfawst.
I went down yesterday, eagerly looking forward to a quiet pint, only to find it in a state which invoked within me a great sense of grief.
Fookin capitalist hoors have ruined it.
