The guardians of these charts is the Official Charts Company, a company formed in 1998 to manage the future development of the charts in the fast-moving entertainment industry, as well as control rights to the charts going back to 1960.
These charts are based on a survey across more than 6,200 retailers, accounting for 99% of all singles sold, 98% of all albums and 85% of all DVDs, which provides an accurate weekly insight into popular British music culture and trends.
