Terry Pratchett

My Lifestory

close About Me

Me, Myself, and I
Creator of THE HOGFATHER and Discworld novels, Terry Pratchett is one of the funniest and most popular authors writing today.

Terry sold his first short story at the tender age of 13 and bought a typewriter with the money. His first novel, THE CARPET PEOPLE, was published when he was 23. In 1983 THE COLOUR OF MAGIC, the first Discworld novel, was published and the rest, as they say, is history.

He lives behind a keyboard in Wiltshire and says he 'doesn't want to get a life, because it feels like he's trying to lead three already.' He is passionate about orangutans but doesn't give a monkey's about anything else.

He was awarded an OBE in 1998 and has sold more than 45 million books worldwide. His books have been translated into 27 languages.

  • Dearie dearie you

I think Death will be scared of you Terry, you know more about him than he does about you. He's someone we all must meet, but I hope it's a long time before your ink stained and his bony hand are warily extended to shake in grudging admiration of jobs exceptionally well done by you both.

You're lucky Jordy K , so many of my books have "walked" that i don't lend them any more- "Oh, it was so good that I lent it to X", "No, he/she didn't lend it to me, might've been Y", etc. And it's VERY hard to pick up a halfway decent copy in the secondhand shops.

    Hey Terry,
Just wanted to say that your books have almost become part of the family! (Although unlike the UU books we don't have to worry about keeping them chained)
    Anyways, thanks heaps :)

Thank you for adding me! I'm a big fan!

But I would also like to take this moment to tell any other fans who attend Strathclyde University in Glasgow, Scotland, that there is a club dedicated to worshipping this amazing man. On a Thursday. 5pm till 7pm. Presuming it doesn't get cancelled for the umpteenth time.

Check out this Bebo page for more info and other general madness.

Hi there, I have read almost if not all of your books that have been published and find it hard to believe that your fantastic mind will soon be too disconnected to piece your tremendous tales together. I feel extremely sad for you and your family. Your documentary was very well done and it seemed that you didnt hide anything, it portrayed the true story of your struggle to stay alive in your own way. And i can't even begin to imagine your resilience in trying to write books and keep busy even while your processes deteriorate (the part i hope we don't get to see).

    Keep fighting and keep living

Audio books couldn't be read by anyone other than Tony Robinson -- Great choice! - Congratulations 'Sir' and remember you have a lot of troops fighting your fight with you... You are a great spokesman for the cause and it's about time someone said what you're saying about this terrible affliction. If or when you ever lose yourself, there's plenty who'll remember you...
