    After postponement due to the weather in December the eagerly awaited Glasgow derby was upon us. It proved an enthralling game with many goals. Glasgow started brightly and their early dominance paid dividends almost immediately with an early goal. A slice of luck bringing about the opening goal with the ball ricocheting of their player into the goal after a good save from our ‘keeper. Then a speculative effort soon after doubled the home side’s advantage. Strathclyde battled their way back into the game and got a deserved goal with a clinical header from defender Emma Smith. As Strathclyde settled into the match leading scorer Ciara Barnes equalised to bring the teams in level at half time. The second half became a scrappier affair with Glasgow being restricted to speculative shots from distance and long balls while Strathclyde persevered with their typical passing game. Glasgow again took a two goal lead but after sustained periods of pressure from the away team Ciara Barnes pulled one back directly from a corner. With the game heading towards the final whistle Strathclyde were dominant and looking for and equaliser. This came through Emma Richardson with only minutes remaining and neither team could find a winner. It was a battling display full of spirit from the girls in maroon and ended with a hard fought point a piece.

    Strathclyde got back to winning ways with another convincing display in the cup. Strathclyde dominated play from the offset against their Aberdeen opponents. While RGU were dangerous on the counter Strathclyde pressure paid off with Strathclyde taking the lead through a composed strike by Natalie Keating, playing in her first game of the season. RGU got themselves back into the game running the play towards the end of the first half and getting their reward by equalising just before the end of the first 45. Strathclyde knew the game should have been beyond RGU by half time but were not disheartened and took total control of the match with two strikes in quick succession, the first coming from the boot of Ciara Barnes. Arlene McGarty swiftly followed this up with her first goal for the team, a superb swerving effort. Emma Richardson made the game safe shortly afterwards to keep leading scorer Ciara Barnes on her toes. This result means Strathclyde progress to the semi-finals of the conference cup with a game to spare.

    After a convincing win at home last week Strathclyde travelled to Aberdeen with high expectations but with the home team fielding a much changed side they had a tough match on their hands. Aberdeen dug in and soaked up a lot of Strathclyde pressure while proving dangerous on the counter attack. Through some persistent play Strathclyde took the lead mid-way through the first half with Emma Richardson scoring her first goal for the club. A lapse in concentration at the back let Aberdeen in to equalise on the stroke of half time. The second half was a much scrappier affair with both teams battling well for possession. With 20 minutes to go Strathclyde made the breakthrough they deserved and Susie Smart scoring her second goal in two games secured the win for the away side. Many nervous moments ensued in the dying minutes with Emma Smith capping a fine performance in goal protecting Strathy’s lead. Strathclyde now look forward to facing Queen Margaret in the cup next week having secured their first points of the league campaign.
