A Song For Torres Written by Gerry on December 4th, 2007 ▪
Another great win for us on Sunday. This time our victims were Bolton, the team that conquered the mancs the previous weekend, and yet we brushed them aside with a 4-0 scoreline that flattered them more then us, because on another day we could have scored eight! (click here)
That’s five wins in a row for us now, with 21 goals scored and just 1 conceded. We really are playing some great stuff at the moment and its clear that it isn’t just the fans who are supporting the boss, the players also seem to be right behind him as well. (click here) Torres’s goal was the pick of the bunch at the weekend, but I’ll get back to that later.
I really like the look of this Torres/Crouch partnership upfront. I had thought that it might work because Torres has the pace and intelligence to make the most of the knock-downs Crouch would provide, but there appears to be more to this partnership then I first realised. What I hadn’t anticipated and which was evident at the weekend, is that the fear defenders have of Peter Crouch, is creating space for Torres to take advantage of. Crouch’s mere presence seems to attract the attention of defenders and Nando is just lapping it up, he’s now scored four goals in the two games he’s started with Crouch as his partner in attack.
Torres’s goal at the weekend was another great finish by the Spanish hitman. The pass from Gerrard was brilliant but the way Nando took the ball on and finished, was just like Dalglish at his very best. This guy really is an amazing player and I hope you will all join me in keeping your fingers, toes and anything else you can think of crossed, that he doesn’t pick up any knocks between now and the manc game, because I am just dying to see him doing his stuff against Ferdinand and Co in that manc defence.(click here)
Which brings me to an e-mail that came into me here at Kopblog HQ, from a young Reds fan who raises a very serious issue.
Hi Gerry,
I am an 8 year old Liverpool fan and feel that it is a pity that nobody has yet written a song for Fernando Torres, so I have tried to write one (with some help from my brother). I remember reading in the summer, that he really wanted the Kop to make up a song for him, so I wonder if you could pass this on to your contacts, if you think it’s any good.
E Viva El Niño (to the tune of E Viva España)
He moved here from sunny Spain,
E viva el Niño,
To walk through our wind and rain,
E viva el Niño,
When he runs through to score,
E viva el Niño,
You’ll hear the Anfield roar,
Fernando more, more, more.
Torres!Torres!
Thanks very much,
Olivia Lloyd-Williams
I think we can all agree this is a fantastic effort by this young lady and I think we will have to send her a special prize on behalf of us all here at Kopblog (I feel like Jimmy Saville!). I wonder if any of you guys have any other suggestions?
On a final note, Arsenal travel to Newcastle tomorrow to play their game in hand and this begs the question why didn’t we take the opportunity to do the same? I know we can play our game in hand at a less hectic time of the season but I’d much rather we had the points and played this one now, particularly with the way we are playing at the moment. A win would also put us in a clear second place, which would be great from a psychological point of view.
However, I think we can also see things from Rafa’s point of view. We already face a month of must-win games and perhaps the last thing he wants to do right now is add another one to the list. It’s easier for Arsenal to play their game now because their work is already done in the CL and they can rest most of their first team in their last group game, we don’t have that luxury.
That said, I think Arsene might now be regretting his decision to play this game tomorrow. Fabregas is still out with a hamstring injury and he has now been joined on the inj
