  • THE WINTER SHUFFLE - All Ages Show ft. Kidz In Space, Computers Want Me Dead, Ruby Frost + more

Savvy Promotions and Coup De Main in association with MAINZ and LoveMusic.co.nz present you the all ages show of the year! THE WINTER SHUFFLE, on Saturday 7th August at Ellen Melville Hall in Auckland features five uber exciting young talents that showcase the future of New Zealand pop music. Kidz in Space, Computers Want Me Dead, Ruby Frost, Leno Lovecraft and Dats the Crux have many common features - visual magnetism, a sense of mystery as strong as melody, and a rejection of the traditional band format in favour of something altogether more exotic.

Headlining the night are Kidz in Space who emerged in homemade astronaut outfits a little over a year ago on innovative Move The Crowd Records. The trio made an instant impact, as their compelling synthesis of electronica, rap and indie wowed crowds from New Zealand clubs to sold out New York dates at CMJ. Their irresistible single Downtime went top 20, while other tracks from their debut EP Volume 001: Chasing Hayley featured fellow travellers like Coco Solid and The Naked and Famous. On the verge of releasing a new single called Ghost and with their debut album scheduled for release in September, they’ll get the night pumping!

Joining them are Computers Want Me Dead - the electro-synth duo who burst onto the scene with their ridiculously catchy debut single We Walk In Circles and having just released their follow-up single In Your Blood, they continue to impress. Sam Harvey and Damien Daniels are united by a common love of synths, drum machines and electro music, Damien's musicianship and Sam's rhythm and production skills fuse electrically, resulting in tunes you'll be humming after one listen. With an energetic party-fuelling live set, they’ll leave the audience buzzing!

Ruby Frost was a unanimous winner of the 42Unheard unsigned artist competition last year, and one listen to her delicate, perfectly formed pop songs will tell you why. She won a record deal with Universal Music and a trip to New York to play at the CMJ Festival in October. Ruby marries ethereal folk to strange, addictive electronic production to create something entirely her own, and her charismatic performance will have the audience entranced.

Leno Lovecraft is a mysterious Whanganui native who seems to have emerged from nowhere to be one of the most talked about new arrivals in some time. He plays an exquisitely realised tribute to that most bonkers of genres, italo-disco. Quite how someone from small-town NZ came in touch with the peculiar, camp Italian dance music from the early ‘80s is anyone’s guess, but we should all be grateful that he possesses something close to genius.

Dats The Crux are an ironic and seductive three-piece girl group who represent some kind of mid-point between Lady Gaga’s extreme pop theatricality and MIA’s DIY approach to life. Their seldom performed live show is an electric spectacle not to be missed, with plot-lines, outfit changes and guest performers, and includes their ‘programmed-for-fun’ single Confetti.

This amazing lineup, accompanied by a fashion stall, a giant Twister mat competition and prizes galore will banish those winter blues and get you shuffling all night long!

I got an ice cream, first one I've had there. Chili chocolate, pistachio and tiramisu. The guy put the chili chocolate at the bottom. I never would've thought that an ice cream would be more hot than cold! When I got to it at the end I didn't have any other ice cream to turn to to make it less hot. T__T
