  • 'The Author' by Tim Crouch

THE AUTHOR by Tim Crouch is on at the Royal Court Theatre 23 September - 24 October 2009.

Settle back into the warmth of the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs. Relax as the story unfolds. For you. With you. Of you. A story of hope, violence and exploitation. Laugh with the actors, tap your feet to the music, turn to your neighbour. You're here.

Tim Crouch's new play is about the abuse carried out in the name of the spectator. His last play, 'England', recently met with rave reviews when it ran at the Whitechapel Gallery in June. Other plays include 'An Oak Tree' and 'My Arm'.

NOTE: this performance contains material that may be disturbing. Age guidance: 18+.

    Now or Later
    Written by Christopher Shinn
    03 September - 18 October

"I don't think we should give up our values to find common ground.

Then it's not common ground, it's their ground and we're just standing on it."

Election night in the US, and things are looking rosy for the Democratic Party. Holed up in a hotel watching the results flood in are the likely President-elect, his wife, advisors and 20 year old son John Jnr. Every speech, interview and photocall has been carefully controlled and meticulously orchestrated, all leading up to this big night.

At the same time controversial photos of John Jnr are gathering momentum on the internet. Whilst his father's advisors work against the clock on damage limitation, it's up to father and son to try and reach an agreement.

Christopher Shinn's searching new play examines religion, freedom of expression and personal responsibility. His previous plays include Dying City, Four, Where Do We Live and Other People.

  • Back by popular demand: scalpel sharp comedy THE UGLY ONE returns for 3 weeks only

    “A drop-dead gorgeous play.” Independent

    * * * * * Show of the Week, Time Out

    10-28 June

Kicking off the Royal Court's Upstairs Downstairs season and following on from last year's sell-out success, THE UGLY ONE by German playwright MARIUS VON MAYENBURG is a scalpel sharp comedy on beauty, identity and getting ahead in life.

Lette thought he was normal. When the extent of his ugliness is revealed he turns to a plastic surgeon for help. But after the bandages come off, Lette soon learns that there is such a thing as too beautiful.

“A delectable black comedy…I have not seen a more imaginative, inventive or disturbing theatrical vision.” Evening Standard

The play is directed by Royal Court Associate Director RAMIN GRAY (Push Up, Terrorism, Ladybird, Way to Heaven and Motortown) and the cast includes AMANDA DREW who has worked extensively for the RSC and is a familiar face to EastEnders viewers for playing baby crazy Dr May Wright. National Theatre regular MICHAEL GOULD (Attempts On Her Life, The Seagull, The UN Inspector) plays the role of Lette and is joined by FRANK MCCUSKER (Coriolanus at Shakespeare’s Globe), and SIMON PAISLEY DAY.

Thank you for accepting my friend invite!

I love the Court, it's my favourite place to go in London.
For two reasons: My idol, Amanda Drew is nearly always there in various productions :P and It feels so homely there and is very friendly!

Can't wait for ENRON to start, I shall try and attend on a matinee.
