Details Of Our Charity Day - Macmillian Cancer Support
Local bands get behind this Saturday's Route 66 Rider Training Charity Event in aid of McMillan Cancer Support.
Local up and coming bands Forevervoid and the City of Statues will be joining forces with female biker fundraising club Breast Way Round and a host of well-known faces from the world of Motorsport at the Route 66 Rider Training Centre in Motherwell this Saturday, in a bid to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The inspiration for the event has come from the efforts of Breast Way Round, whose 100-strong membership circumnavigated Scotland in just four days earlier this year to raise the profile of those affected by breast cancer, and in doing so raising an incredible £33,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Their own inspiration, and that of group leader Shirley Ann Barnes, comes from the memory of fellow biker Alyson Porter who sadly died last year just after their first event, following a 3 year battle with the disease. Alyson was not only Shirley Anne's best friend, but she was also the driving force behind her learning to ride at the tender age of 41. "She wanted so much to be a part of it" said Shirley Anne, "her spirit and determination now lives on through what we aim to make an annual event."
Macmillan are very supportive in all aspects of the care they give. Not least the patient grants they award to people who find themselves in financial hardship due to this devastating disease. Statitics show that one in three people will be affected by cancer at some point in their life. The consequence is that seventeen percent of sufferers lose their home due to the financial hardship that ensues.
Upon hearing of the event, local bands Forevervoid and the City of Statues were only to happy to throw their weight behind the campaign. Forevervoid frontman David Littlejohn from Motherwell said "It's great to be part of something so worthwhile. We're delighted to have the opportunity to play our part, joining the local community and supporting the great work inspired by the Breast way Round Girls, MacMillan Cancer support and in particular Route 66 Rider Training."
The Route 66 event is also gathering great support from local businesses and individuals from all over Motherwell who are all linked by a common love of motorcycling and motorsport.
Lanarkshire's Jim Moody, Isle of Man TT Champion will join Calvin Watson, the UKs No1 karting champion and Deane Brown, a leading Moto GP Star from Motherwell to take part in the festivities. Well wishers from far and wide such as Louise Brady, a high-profile motorcycle TV Presenter who is currently filming in Los Angeles, will also be sending their bestwishes and support for the day.
Route 66 would like to extend an invitation to all familys and friends to a fun day out in aid of a wonderful cause at our Training School in Crosshill Street, Motherwell this coming Saturday 25th July. Doors open from 12pm until 4.30pm.
