We here at Retro Gamers do like a good prototype and Sonic Crackers is one of the most interesting one's kicking about. Also known as Sonic Stadium, Crackers was intended for release on the Mega Drive and featured the blue spiky one chained to Tails with the intention being to solve puzzles based on the limitations of this linking. Most people agree that this game ended up as Knuckles Chaotix on Sega's waste of plastic, the 32X!
I've spent a fair bit of time with this recently and though it only comprises of a few roughly put together levels and the controls are far from tight its still better than some of the crap seen on the Mega Drive! The gameplay mechanic works quite well with you having to treat the two main characters as a single unit, various button presses can make Tails stop while Sonic runs ahead stretching the chain, leave the button go and Tails will shot forward in front of you. It takes a while to get used to but once you do it's a good laugh booting the pain in the arse all over the screen!
There doesn't appear to be any sort of story and theres some crazy bugs, at one point I paused the game and Sonics arms floated away into the air which was bizarre, you won't see that anywhere else. Another interesting part of SC's history is on the lower part of the title screen are the numbers "19940401" leading to rumours it was an April fools day joke though with Chaotix being so similar I would think that was a bit wide of the mark. Why was it cancelled? Who knows though as far as I'm aware it was just a tech demo and never intended for a general release, another story is Sega decided that Sonic should never be chained up like this and felt Knuckles would suit the game better.
If you want to experience this for yourself it's easy enough to find on the big ROM sites and if nothing else it's an interesting piece of video game history.
I've just checked on the progress made from the legends over at THE UNIFIED MOTHER 3 TRANSLATION PROJECT and it is now quoted at 80-85% completed!! I'm far too excited about that!!
Never heard of Mother 3? It's basically the sequel to Earthbound on the SNES and for reasons unknown Nintendo decided not to localise it as they seem to do with all the good stuff! Thank god for guys like these, without them normal people like you and me would miss out. Described by developer Shigesato Itoi as strange, funny, & heartrending Mother 3 is set in a place called the Nowhere Islands and features an all new rhythm action battle system, multiple parties at different parts of the story, a cowboy and a monkey!! What more could you want from a video game?
Having AutoPlay on gives you the best media experience on Bebo. When you visit another user's profile, their Video Box will automatically start playing their current favorite video.

Of all your old school computer game gear, what means the most to you? It could be an ultra-rare game which they only made 3 copies of that goes on e-bay for £2,000,000,000, or perhaps it could be just a game you really, really love...
