- Hi, I'm Rachel Wood & I want to be able to share my makeup tips & things with you all....I mean, not everyone out there really wants to take advice from their Mum on this particular subject do they?!
I don't know about you, but I found it dead tricky to work out how to use all the millions of different products & stuff out there. I mean, there's just SO much to choose from, I never knew where to start & always made such a mess! Which is kinda why I fell into the job I do now...
I originally came from NYC but moved over here just over 10 years ago to study at Greasepaint & The London College of Beauty. Now I work in all sorts of areas of makeup - music promos & catwalks, powdering Pretty Boy's nose at Wicked Magazine shoots & sticking glitter in places I never knew glitter should stick, at Manumission in Ibiza!
So now I want to share my handy hints with you! No more Friday nights up to your armpits in crusty coverup & goopy mascara...just gorgeous Bambi eyes & A-Lister smiles! - Music
- Music is my passion & LOVE that I get to spend a lot of time working in the music industry! I've worked with some really cool bands like Kasabian & Hard Fi. Dance music is my first love though & got to spend 2 seasons working out in Ibiza! Plus I love a bit of old skool hip hop like Sugar Hill Gang & the Beastie Boys. I'm digging the Klaxxons & Hot Chip right now...but don't get me started on boy/girl bands that rip off No.1's & make em into a pants watered down version of a fab original, makes me break out in a rash! If I have to listen to pop, it's Madonna all the way and poor Britney had me with Toxic but now I think she needs a detox! And last but not least, I love some classic rock stuff like the Chilli Peppers, Pink Floyd & Led Zep...

- I'm also huge film buff..another reason why it's great to be a makeup artist. I worked on some on some Hollywood famous faces like the High School Musical cast, Ewan McGregor & cutie Jered Leto! I'm into all kinds of film from blockbusters like Gladiator..mafia movies - Godfather, Goodfellas..I have a guilty pleasure for period dramas - Jane Austen, Oscar Wilde, Shakespeare - I don't know what it is about rolling hills, ladies in corsets & lots of swooning but I can't get enough!! I adore American teen comedies, I've watched Mean Girls a 100 times! Clueless, Superbad & 10 Things I Hate about you. Legally Blonde is my all time favourite to watch in bed when I'm ill. Has anyone seen Juno? It made me giggle for hours! Hate overly testosterone type male dominated films about sports or cars & stupid slapstick humour, I can't deal with Mr. Bean! Oh, & nothing too gory like Saw or Hostel - I get way too scared & the blood makes me want to blow chunks!
- Sports
- I love yoga, my spin classes, roller-blading in Hyde Park & boxing. I'm terrible at watching sport though?! Back in high school in New York I was a cheerleader but never sat through one full game & never knew what was going on - DOH! I've been lucky enough to work with Ryan Giggs, Frank Lampard & Josh Lewsey. I was in Australia last year & got to see Roger Federer at the tennis..I can appreciate the strength & the speed that goes into the game but by the 3rd game I had to entertain myself by keeping score on who wore the best tennis outfits rather than their swing..oops! If there was 1 sport that I wish I could do well, that would be surfing - I used to surf a little & v badly when I was younger. I mean, how hot is Kelly Slater!
- Scared Of
- Well lots of stuff...scary movies which I already mentioned! I hate heights, I get vertigo! Flying turbulence ( I have to say a little prayer & breathe deeply to calm down!) Cockroaches, creepy crawlies, clowns especially that of the travelling circus variety!
- Happiest When
- There are so many things that make me smile! Sunshine & good weather (I definitely didn't move to the UK for that!) so I love a good beach holiday. I can sit in the sun with a good book all day. My friends make me laugh, I love chocolate, the smell of fresh baked bread, thick black rock 'n roll eyeliner & a tonne of mascara, new clothes, going clubbing & out for dinner with my friends. I love to bake, it chills me out & I make a mean carrot cake! Art museums, cool exhibitions - the Hayward Gallery. I'm happy in the UK coz there's always an exhibition, a show, a movie, something new to do...I love to travel & been blessed to work in some crazy locations - music videos in Scotland, a fashion spread at a monastery designed by Michael Angelo looking down on to Florence in Italy, made up a bride in Australia & painted glitter on to dancers in Ibiza!! I guess I'm happiest when I'm working...

Shine Shine Shine
Hey everyone- i ve been getting lots of mail and comments asking about shiny hair or shiny skin so this week thought I'd give you all a few tips how to get that glossy gleam
For shiny hair- make sure you use some conditioner when washing your hair, towel dry and then using a big round roll type hair brush separate your hair into sections and blow dry - make sure you angle the hair blower pointing straight downwards onto the hair ( not upside down or from the sides) use a hot setting and then repeat using a cold setting for a few seconds- spritz with some shine spray- gives lovely glossy locks
For shiny skin- exfoliate using a very gentle exfoliating cleanser about 2 times a week to rid dead skin cells and use moisturiser to re hydrate your skin - even if you have oily skin use an oil control based formula- then either before foundation or on its on try a touch of an moisturiser with a pearl or iridescent formula for extra glow or try using a pearly high lighter on your cheek bones, nose, chin or forehead for a fresh shiny look
For shiny lips- try a lipstick or lip gloss that is a frosted formula- this will have extra sparkle...and of course for that shiny smile a touch of instant white to finish off your look

Sofia's Diary Fashion Exchange Looks
hey everyone- have you been watching Sofia's Diary.. well if you have you must of seen the fashion exchange party Sofia. Pretty Boy, and I were doing! It was a real giggle and I had a lot of fun creating the dramatic hair and makeup looks for the Wicked Staff. (I think its episode 58?)
I gave Sofia a real 1940's inspired look for her hair with big rolled looped twists at the front and strong smoky eyes using metallic dark shimmery brown eye shadow and a nice black eye liner on the inside- I made sure I smudged it all together for a sultry look.
I used lots of eyeliner on all the staff for their little fashion show as I think its the quickest way to get a real sexy look with definition in a flash... I also brightened up their smiles w some instant white- of course!! lol!!
So I was thinking... leave me a comment and let me know what your quick makeup tricks are for instant va va voom?! We can have a makeup tip exchange like the fashion exchange- you never know you might teach me a thing or two!!!
