I'm awake and it's 3:39 a.m. as I write this. My sleeping patterns are getting worse!
At the moment I'm listening to The Album Leaf as I thought it would help me sleep....but it's that type of music that leaves you to it with your imagination and thoughts and all of a sudden you realise you've been day dreaming (night dreaming?) about whatever you were thinking about for the past hour.
Anyway....what I've been thinking about in the past hour or so is how mental my life is/ is becoming.
Over 2 years ago, I was at university studying to be a teacher. I was unhappy and hated it. I dreaded waking up every morning but kept telling myself I'm keeping people happy and I'm playing this (my life in general) safe. I get a degree and a secured job with a salary at the end of this and everything will be okay. But how can everything be ok if you're unhappy?
I took a chance. I spent 2 whole years doing the student thing. Studying for exams, writing assignments, going on placements whilst trying to keep up a part time job in Woolworths. I left everything.
Left uni, left Woolworths (I'd like to think woolworths didn't work out in the end because they lost a great colleague
) and ultimately left home.
Most people thought I was mental.....looking back it was a bit random. I was getting good grades, loved being near home spending time with my mates and my boyfriend, had a laugh in work but I detested uni. And making this decision could in the end ruin the other things that were making me happy (ie- making others happy, being near home, being with friends and boyfriend, having a structure like everyone else)....and it almost did.
I missed home, missed being with friends and boyfriend, missed having a structure, missed having control.
I had control in my life, I liked that. (I think that's why I love driving so much because you are completely in control of the car?)
I'm a very ambitious person. I have an idea in my head and I go with it. I go for it. But I lost a lot of confidence when things were starting to happen strangely enough because I realised that I'm not in control. I have no control of what my future holds and that scares THE SHIT OUT OF ME.
I could work my ass off....and I do....yet I'm relying on the public to help me out because they hold my future. Is that not mental?!
ARGH.
But very recently I've become excited. I'm happy I made that decision 2 years ago. I'm in a happy place. I'm doing something I love. I'm writing music I love...and just hope others love it too. It feels good putting a smile on someones face or hearing someone sing your song. It feels good creating something and someone liking that thing you've created....that spark you don't quite know how or where it came from.
And that my lovelies beats having less structure and less control because it's thanks to you lot that I'm here so far. It's thanks to you that I'm still keeping on. It's thanks to you that I'm happy.
Phew! That was deep. Time to stop day dreaming (night dreaming?).

Hello hey hi howdy
I'm feeling weird at the moment. So thought I would blog?
I'm going through a phase right now where I can't stop writing and getting ideas in my head at horrible hours! I'm frustrated because I'm rubbish at the engineering side of things....and I can't use logic! I am useless! I think I need lessons.
My bass player has agreed on giving me a few lessons if I pay him in pizza and red wine. I think I'd be even more useless on red wine!
I have a lot of cool things coming up. Got a couple of gigs here and there and playing at Scotland's Homecoming 2009 in the SECC along with some great people on the 28th November. Whoop! I'll be in hall 3 if you're going along.
I'm also playing in Dunfermline on the 20th November at PJ Molloys which will be cool. Never played there before!
Then next week I'm going down to London to do some recordings for an EP which will be released in March along with my debut single in march! I'm looking forward to recording them....I'll be recording more of an acoustic intimate vibe for these tracks so I'll keep you posted on that.
It's all a bit strange to think that it's all kicking off next year! Time flies.
I've also got a show for you lot in Edinburgh! It's on the 12th December at Sneaky Pete's so come along if you fancy it. I'll have t shirts too if you don't have one already
Then I have a show in Glasgow at King Tuts on the 21st of December so make sure to get your tickets in advance!
I'm really looking forward to it...got Brother Louis Collective and Kitty the Lion supporting. Love them both.

I think I'm allowed to say what I'm doing.....if your watching a television on Hogmanay then make sure you are watching BBC1!
I'll be performing 2 songs on the BBC Hogmanay show which I CAN'T BLOODY WAIT TO DO!! Playing in a large studio with lots of instruments and happy faces and champaign. YES!
Will keep you posted on that one too.
Anyway, I should go and make a cup of tea and write lyrics til I fall asleep.
