  • And they say they have no money Try explain this Harney

MARY HARNEY 62.4 MILLION ON ADVISERS IN THE LAST FOUR YEARS.

    Breakdown
    2005 21.2 million
    2006 7.9 million
    2007 16.7 million
    2008 16.6 million
A total of 62.4 million in four years.
The bills for CEO Brendan Drumm’s personal advisers Maureen Lynott, Karl Anderson and Dr Sean McGuire of SMG Healthcare Consultancy Ltd came to 2.1 million. Another of Mr Drumm’s advisers, Maura McGrath, was paid almost 300,000 last year.
Big Consulting and accountancy firms represented on the list for 2008 include PA Consulting (1.6m), McKinsey& Co ( just over 1 m ), Horwath Consulting (478,000), A&L Goodbody (92,000) and pricewaterhousecoopers a modest (12.000).
Another notable entry on last year’s list was Prospectus, a consultancy firm who’s managing director, Vincent Barton, is a former official at the Department of Health.
Prospectus advised the HSE on Co-location Hospitals_private Hospitals on Public Hospital sites.
The firm’s website says it specialises in strategy in the healthcare sector, which it defines as “helping you decide what not to do”.
Wilson Hartnell Public relations is another firm that benefited from the HSE’s largesse last year, billing the health chief’s 318,000.
Drury communications got 55,000 merely for launching the HSE’s 2007 annual report.
Terry Prone’s communications clinic was paid 64,000 for a ‘radiological review’.
Universities also benefited from the HSE’s spending spree,
In 2008, UCD was paid 117,000, Trinity college’s sahru Ltd got 93,000, while the university of limerick received 75,000 and DCU billed for 24,000.
However it was a British university that earned the most from working for the HSE. The University of west England Bristol was paid 129,000 for two reports.
Controversial figure Phil Flynn received almost 90.000 between mediation in a HSE dispute with impact workers and a ‘human resources inquiry’.
The HSE has a budget this year of 14.5 billion but must find cuts of more than 1 billion to balance the books. Last night Dr, Reilly said; ‘It’s an absolute disgrace they’re more interested in their reputation than they are in delivering services.
If they have not go the expertise within the 113,000 people that they employ, what in the name of God are they at. The cutbacks in Crumlin Hospital are going to again inflict needless suffering on children.
Information gathered by Irish Daily mail.

Subject: Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin - Statement

    STATEMENT

    ISSUED BY

    OUR LADY’S CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL, CRUMLIN

    RE : Breakeven Plan

    13 May 2009

Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin wishes to reiterate its statement made in April 2009:

Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin provides acute secondary and tertiary services to children from a local and national population. The Hospital treats on a yearly basis over 24,500 inpatients and day cases, 30,100 Emergency Department attendances, 80,000 Out Patient attendances and performs over 13,800 operating procedures.

In 2007 the HSE provided funding at a level of €9.9ml less than the hospital’s actual expenditure. Following extensive detailed discussions with the HSE, it was indicated that the HSE would provide €9.9ml as a once off payment to resolve the 2007 deficit – this remains unresolved.

In 2008 the HSE indicated funding of €14ml less than the hospital’s projected spend. Following extensive discussion an additional €7ml was provided by the HSE to the hospital on the basis that Our Lady’s could succeed in achieving a cost containment of €7ml before the end of 2008. The hospital initiated an extensive cost containment programme, involving non replacement of staff and detailed management of pay and non pay costs. As a result, these savings were achieved in 2008.

For 2009 the HSE allocation for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin is €137.9ml (a reduction of 4% from 2008) to provide services to children and their families. In real terms the hospital is seeking to identify €9ml.

The hospital Board is determined that it must operate with the financial resources made available to it. The hospital Board has approved a breakeven plan which will include the following:

    Capacity Restrictions

Closure of 25 beds with effect from May 2009
Possible closure of another ward before the end of 2009
Closure of approximately a further 20 beds in the summer months Jul/Aug 2009
Reduce out patient appointments by 15% i.e. 8,483 attendances, 1,100 admissions
Close one theatre in July-Dec 2009
Close two theatres for the summer months Jul/Aug 2009
Grant unpaid leave to staff who have expressed a voluntary interest for July/Aug
    Temporary/agency staff contracts will cease.

In addition all areas of non pay expenditure will continue to be managed in detail and all sources of income will be maximized. Staff will redeploy where appropriate to minimise the impact on direct services to children.

These measures will in turn mean that there will be longer waiting times for some children in relation to clinical assessment and waiting times for non emergency surgery.

All hospital staff will be focused on attempting to minimise the impact on the children they serve.

Our Lady’s staff wish to reassure children and families that all emergencies will be cared for and it will do everything it can to protect the sickest patients.

    Ends

  • Carolann.s mother speaks at our protest

    Terry S by Terry S
COPY OF CARMEL WALSH’S SPEECH FROM PROTEST JUNE 27th. Ladies and Gentlemen, We have all had a stressful few weeks with one thought on our minds from morning to night, the health and well being of our children. No one likes to have to go to the airways, newspapers or national television, but, as we thought, it was the only way to shame our present government Mary Harney and the HSE into action. On Wednesday night, Teresa called and told me we where defeated by 72 votes to 67. My heart sank to my shoes, a chill went up my spine and my stomach turned. I lay awake recalling all the faces I seen in newspapers that week,] JAMIE MRPHY, DAKOTA RUDD, DEVINN BEHAN, SARAH DORNEY, JACK MCNIFF, EMMA LACEY, CONOR COUGHLAN,EMMA DOYAL, MARIA FROM CARLOW and of course my own daughter CAROLANN. And these are only a handful who depend on Our Lady’s Hospital for sick children, and who have shared there story with us. The following day by 2 pm we learned of the backroom dealing that had taken place by a government desperate to hold onto power. Instead of admitting the wrong they had done, by passing the book and passing the blame, they are hurting innocent children and families. We all know the promises that were made and it is up to each and every one of us to ensure they are kept. Thank you

Our campaign wish to announce that on june the 27th at 2 pm we are holding a protest outside Our lady's Children's Hospital Crumlin.

We have been receiving verbal support from all over ireland but even though we are very grateful of the support verbal is not going to reopen a ward, verbal is not going to fix broken limbs on a child, it will not keep a theater from closing down . what we need is people power,
we need you to stand along side us as people power is what we need.
If our elderly could march for there medical cards than we can do it for our children. In the hse and governments eyes our children do not have a voice,
so we have to be there voice and make them Harney Cowen and Drumm wake up and hear that we the parents and family of children in Ireland will not sit back while you put a child's life in danger.

  • mary harneys reason for closing wards

    Terry S by Terry S
Minister herself did not speak on this issue but instead sent a Junior Minister to read a pre-prepared script.

peaking in an adjournment debate in Dáil Éireann Tuesday May 19th

Mary Upton TD“I welcome the opportunity to speak on the closure of wards at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin. The decision to close the wards is totally misguided. The only outcome of the decision will be unnecessary pain and suffering for children, who will be put on the waiting list, and incredible stress for their parents. I am sure the Minister, like all other Members, has received the e-mails on this issue. If these e-mails are anything by which to judge, there is a huge level of anger and frustration. In my experience it is matched only by the reaction to the removal of the medical card from people over 70. There is huge annoyance at this decision on the part of parents not just in Dublin - as Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children is in my constituency I have a particular interest in it - but throughout the country, as the e-mails have made clear.”

“Closing the wards and reducing front line services make no sense. Over the past few years significant amounts of money have been invested in the hospital and various aspects of its service have been upgraded. What sense or logic is there in closing wards after recently investing substantially in the hospital? The consequence of closing the wards is that the sick children will either be forced into overcrowded wards or put on an extended waiting list, each of which is extremely unsatisfactory and most unfair.”

“The decision is yet another example of the right hand of the HSE not knowing what the left hand is doing. The HSE will probably argue that critically ill children will get the service and treatment they require. That is most welcome and one would hope nothing other than that would happen. However, it is not good enough for the small children and patients who suffer from illnesses such as scoliosis. I am sure all Members will have received e-mails on that issue as well. It is heart-rending to hear of the impact on and consequences for children if treatment is not put in place in a timely manner. Saying that critically ill children will get the treatment they need is another way of saying that many children who are ill will not get the treatment they require.”

“Everybody accepts that the HSE is facing serious budgetary problems but it is most inappropriate that the front line services being challenged are the ones that affect children. This should really be the last resort and not the first option, as it appears to be. The revelation today that the HSE spent almost €17 million on spin doctors and management consultants last year indicates that maintaining front line services falls well down on the list of priorities when allocating resources. The spend on public relations is totally unacceptable, particularly in the current climate and against a background of the closure of wards for the provision of services for sick children.”

“The details supplied by parents about the effects of the closure on their children are graphic and, in many cases, are clearly causing them huge distress. The fear factor alone is enough to prompt them to contact every Dáil Deputy to have the decision reversed. The loss of the service to the children is clearly the priority but there is also concern in my constituency about the secondary effect of job losses. This is also important, and people are very concerned about that risk. I urge the Minister for Health and Children to engage with Professor Drumm and the management of Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, to reverse the decision. I will not list the possible areas where savings could be made, as there are many and it is not important now that these are identified. What is important is that the decision to close the wards is reversed straight away. The hospital must be given the go-ahead to reopen these

SPENDING WHAT I BELIEVE IS UNNECESSARY MONEY WHEN THERE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS THAT MONAY CAN BE USED FOR.

THE GOVERNMENT ARE ONLY INTERESTED IN LINING THEIR OWN POCKETS RATHER THAN HELPING THOSE WHO NEED IT MOST.

IF THERE IS ANYTHING I CAN DO TO HELP YOU OUT WITH THIS PLEASE CONTACT ME AND I WILL DO ALL I CAN TO HELP YOU OUT.

THIS HAS TO STOP AND THE ONLY WAY IT WILL STOP IS IF THE PEOPLE OF IRELAND STAND TOGETHER AND MAKE THEM STOP.

Keep on fighting, this should not be happening to such a wonderful facility. Tell Mary Harney that if she and the other useless ministers took a proprer pay cut this would not be happening. As for the near €14 million going to party leaders! this would be put to better use in Crumlin.

Hi Teresa. Well done with the site. I am doing a fundraising Poker Night in Dunboyne Castle Hotel for our Lady's Hospital in Crumlin. It is to take place on the 3rd of July from 8:30pm. To buy into the game it is €25.00 per person. If anyone is interested in buying tickets please send me a message on the same page you request me as a friend and I will organise getting those tickets to you.

Teresa I hope you don't mind me advertising here. I don't actually have any children myself but do alot of fundraising for the hospital as I believe they need it more than anyone else. The children need people to speak for tthem.
