  • Breakers Stumble Against Snakes

The Breakers fell to the Cairns Taipans Wednesday night 77-64 at the Cairns Convention Centre. The win keeps the Taipans finals hopes alive.

The Taipans entered the game with the lowest shooting percentage in the league, at 42% and needed to get off to a hot start. But it was the Breakers who got the ball rolling jumping out to a 9-2 lead with the hot shooting of Oscar Forman. Poor shooting let the Taipans back into the game and they noted the score at 14-14 at the first quarter break. The hot shooting did not stop there as the Taipans went on a 14-0 run giving the Taipans a 12 point lead midway through the second quarter before the Breakers went on a run of their own scoring 6 consecutive points. From their the Taipans reasserted themselves building a 35-23 lead entering halftime.

Things did not improve much for the Breakers in the second half, as Dillon Boucher, Tom Abercrombie, Oscar Forman, and CJ Bruton all fouled out with close to 6 minutes remaining in the final quarter, dashing hopes of a comeback. One of the bright spots of the evening was Dillon Boucher grabbing his 500th rebound of his career.

The Taipans were lead by Dusty Rychart who tallied 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Rich Melzer who contributed 17. The Breakers were lead by CJ Bruton with 10 points and Oscar Forman with 9. The Breakers continue their trip down under as they play the Townsville Crocs Friday night.

I'm sorry to say but what a disappointing display of basketball against the Taipans. 4 of our starting 5 fouled out too!Honestly?!
The commentary was poor to say the least. It was an absolute fizzer of a game.
However, room for redemption in the next home game. Good luck against the Crocs tomorrow, they will put up a fight! We really need a win on the road.

It was a tough game for the boys last night. They're still holding their heads up high and ready for Friday night. Catch last night's replay on Maori Television tonight, 8.30pm.

Next game on the road is versus the Crocs, this Friday. The game will be streamed LIVE on the Croc's website. Check it out!

The Team pulled out all the stops and beat ladder leaders, Perth Wildcats, 83-74, at North Shore Events Centre last night.

It was a physical game, which showed on the scoreboard with foul counts increasing as each minute passed on the clock. Tom Abercrombie was the top scorer with 23 points.

The atmosphere was awesome, the Team wished you all could have been there. See you on November 26th for the next home game - PLUS we're celebrating Pauli's 200th game so come and support this great milestone!

GREAT GAME LAST NIGHT GUYS! I only wish I lived near Auckland! Then I would be at every game! Sadly I can't and have to watch on a teeny tiny TV at my mates as we can't get Maori TV on our big screen atm. Go hard Breakers!

Awvee Storey has been sacked by the Breakers.

This is clearly the best thing the club has done all season so far.

    Welcome to NZ, JR.

For those who haven't seen JR playing or heard about him... JR is simply an Aussie Phil Jones - he is an well-experienced veteran that is in the twilight of his career but still can light it up on any given night.

Yeah Sean you are right on the money... again
Awvee is outtie. JR is on his way to NZ.

It is still uncertain that JR will replace Awvee or just fill in temporarily until Penney comes back. The latter would be better of the two scenarios.

I think we still need a talented small/power forward who can contribute offensively under the basket. - We have only one option atm, that is Rickert.

Breakers have always been good at finding a replacement import in the mid-season. Hopefully they keep it up and don't make the same mistake as they did with Awvee has history of punching and fracturing his teammate in the face and elbowed his opponent in the sternum in his recent professional basketball career.

Hey Sean B, you are right on the money.
From what I heard from ppl who saw Awvee Storey playing in the Korean League about 2-3 years back, he is more of a guy who can be the most effective under isolation offence. He's never been a reliable outside shooter in his career and that is what he's been doing for the Breakers.

No wonder the Breakers are strugging this year and Im sure the acquisition of Storey has also slightly affected Forman's role and caused him to struggle immensely on the offensive end.

It's not just this year that the Breakers is dealing with injuries - Remember last year we had Penney out for a few weeks and also had CJ sidelined due to injury. But we were able to deal with those adversities as we had a good team chemistry and everyone on the roster was contributing - except Adam Tanner (Towel Deliever)
