The standard V6 3.6 liter FSI gasoline engine offers solid fuel efficiency. This amounts to 26 miles per gallon on the road and 16 miles per gallon in town. These numbers are 19% better than those of last year's model.

The upgraded 2011 Touareg engine is a turbocharged V6 TDI clean diesel engine. It provides best in class fuel efficiency of 19 miles per gallon around town and 28 miles per gallon on the road. This engine also offers a greater amount of power than gasoline engines and the best emissions suitable for all fifty states. Emissions are lowered by 90%.

Every model of 2011 Volkswagen Touareg now includes an automatic eight speed transmission as a standard feature. The last two gears are overdrive gears that are fuel efficient. Gear number eight lowers the speed of the engine by 33% over sixth gear.

The new Touaregs stay with their time tested legacy of offering great acceleration in the engine performance. The V6 gives the driver a full 265 pounds feet in the 2,500 RPM to 5,000 RPM range and creates 280 horsepower while at 6,200 RPM. The TDI super charged engine cranks out an eyebrow raising 406 pounds feet torque in the 1,750 RPM to 2,250 RPM range as it generates 225 horsepower in the 3,500 RPM to 4,000 RPM range.

One thing that is consistent from one Touareg to the next is its towing capability. Whatever engine set up they have, this towing capacity comes in at 7,700 pounds. This can come as an upgrade option installed by the factory as the towing package.
