Safety features on the 2011 Toyota Venza include Toyota's Safety Star System (standard), which includes traction control, vehicle stability control, brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution and anti-lock braking. Additional standard safety features include a tire pressure monitoring system, hill start assist control, active head restraints available for the front seat driver and occupant to prevent or at least limit the severity of whiplash in some types of rear-end collisions.
Other standard safety features include emergency locking retractors available for all seats, 3-point seat-belts along with headrests available for all seats, automatic-locking retractors available for all seats (except the driver's seat), front seat-belt pretensioners including force limiters and the Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system for rear outboard seats.
Seven airbags are standard. These include driver's knee, dual-stage front, 2-row side curtain and front seat-mounted airbags. Another standard safety feature is a fuel pump cut off switch activated with airbag deployment.
NHTSA ratings are almost all 5 out of a possible 5 rating. This includes frontal driver at 5 out of 5 stars, frontal passenger at 5 out of 5 stars, side driver at 5 out of 5 stars, side rear passenger at 5 out of 5 stars and rollover at 4 out of 5 stars. The IIHS has previously awarded the Toyota Venza the honor of Top Safety Pick for 2009 and 2010. The Venza received a "good" rating for the roof strength test. While there is no 2011 rating yet, it is expected to be similar.
