The two passenger cabin of the 2011 Smart ForTwo Electric Drive seems surprisingly roomy and well protected by a roll cage. Originally released as a fuel powered vehicle, this is the first electric version to be released that has nearly no changes to the outward appearance of the vehicle. The green paint scattered about the exterior is the only change that sets this model apart from its fuel powered counterparts. The name itself is interesting, Smart ForTwo. ForTwo has produced a few fuel powered versions which have proven to be extremely fuel efficient as well.
The Smart ForTwo will feature a 40 horsepower electric engine in place of the 3 cylinder engine of its other models. The battery pack will remain charged for about 84 miles, which does not sound like a very high number but is great performance for a vehicle that was never intended for long trips. The 2011 Smart ForTwo Electric Drive will be available with a Crystal White exterior and interior color options including beige, black and red. In addition, there are green mirror caps and wheel covers setting it apart as a Green vehicle.

The 2011 Smart ForTwo Electric Drive is a cute little car that is intended to provide transportation without producing emissions or using gasoline. It does just that. However, those of us in the United States will have to act fast or wait just a bit longer for the production of the Electric Drive to ramp up. This first year test run will only produce 250 of these that will be found in the United States. The remaining 750 or so of the production run will remain overseas. The Electric Drive is priced at around $45,000 base. The counterpart gasoline version has a much lower sticker price of around $25,000 base. The Electric Drive is better for the environment and over time better for the wallet as gas prices continue to climb. If you are looking for a very small, electric powered vehicle to drive around the city with, the 2011 Smart ForTwo Electric Drive may just be the car you are searching for.
