At NetSafe, we can help you sort out how to keep safe online. We know heaps of cool sites that can help you get the most out of being on the net, and we can let you know some tips to protect your personal info and keep your online relationships safe. We can also help you figure out what to do if something goes wrong for you or a friend.

VOTE FOR US!!!
NetSafe's NetBasics campaign is up for a prestigious Webby Award - otherwise known as the online Oscars - and we need your help!
The NetBasics are a series of animations that aim to teach New Zealander's how to keep their computer safe and secure. You can check them out at www.netbasics.org.nz. The campaign has already won a few different awards but we'd LOVE to win this one too!
Voting is easy:
1. Visit www.webbyawards.com and click on the VOTE NOW! graphic.
2. If you're not already a member, egister an account on the site (you just need to give them a valid email address and user name).
3. Once you've received an email with your verification code in it, login and go to the 'Website' category.
4. The NetBasics are nominated for in the Features category under 'Best Use of Animation or Motion Graphics'. Simply click on the VOTE button next to NetSafe NetBasics to cast your vote.
We're currently in fourth place but with your help, we know we can win. Voting closes on Thursday so get clicking now!!

Where to watch stuff online . . . legally
There's heaps of stuff to watch that you can download for free online - but is it all legal?
Lots of the movies and tv programmes you can get online (particularly the hot new releases) are actually pirate copies, meaning that they're illegal to download. Downloading these to your computer (even if you don't actually get round to viewing them) is against the law in New Zealand and can get you in a whole heap of trouble; you can face up to five years of jail, or up to $10,000 in fines!
The good news is that viewing your fave movies and tv shows online has just got easier thanks to Youtube. The perenially popular video-sharing site has just expanded its library of movies and tv programmes. You can check out the new content at www.youtube.com/shows for tv programmes, and http://www.youtube.com/movies for movies. Happy viewing!
