I think the best way to be savvy about shopping this Christmas is too shop around....i know for a fact that if one store lowers the price on a highly sought for product other stores will as well, like for example ipods or games consoles etc. Price wars.....also check out shops that aren't franchises but still stock the products because there is a chance they will have better deals.

purchased the new "Elle" fashion phone from Alcatel just under a year ago. within 2 months the pone was having trouble catching up with me. next it started to display new message icons, when i hadnt recieved new messages. turns out the phone was putting my DELETED message in my inbox as new. i brought the phone back to the shop i bought it in, and explauned the problem which often left me unable to use or access the message option on my phone at all. to make a long story short the phone was sent away 5 times every time coming back with new and increasing problems. i was told after the third time being sent away i was entitled to a new phone (store policy (me arse) )bu the sales person insisted on sending it away every time. i was then told i had to ring the manufacturer for a refund. which i did and to this day 4 months on i still havent got an answer at the other end. the phone now wont even charge or switch on. €149 down the drain. DONT BUY COOL LOOKING/FASHION PHONES

i really think i was scammed big time. i bought a laptop just over a year ago now and i paid €800 for it. it had a years guarantee on it. about 12 days before the guarantee ran out the laptop broke down and when i brought it back to the shop and they wouldn't fix it for me. they told me to bring it to another shop i ended up spending €120 getting it repaired then to find out that i couldn't even bring the shop to small claims court as i had brought it to another shop to get it fixed as the shop had told me to
