Giving the gift of life is not
even an option for gay and
bisexual men in the UK.

Grouped in the same category as
prostitutes,IV drug users and
tarred with the brush of being
high risk carriers of HIV/AIDS.

Russia and South Africa used to ban
gay and bisexual men from giving
blood, these laws were changed
in 2006, giving gay and bi men
the same option to donate
blood as their hetrosexual
counterparts.

Group together, sign the petition at http://epetitions.scottish.parliamen... and show the government that we will not back down.

HOMOPHOBIA = Discrimination against
gay people.

I would call this discrimination
of governmental proportions,
some people are not bothered,
some people would never even
give blood if they could -
that's fine, but sign the petition
end this injustice and allow the
people who want to donate,
to donate.

    lifestyle of gay and bisexual men in as
    straightforward a manner as for heterosexual

    the email explaining your campaign on the
    gay and bisexual blood ban which operates
    within the UK to be lifted. I commend your
    actions on this matter and share your view
    that the present situation is celarly inequitable.
    I am sure you will be aware that Stonewall,
    Scotland, is currently calling on the Scottish
    Parliament and Scottish Government to put
    pressure on the Scottish National Blood
    Transfusion Service to update its current
    outdated and homophobic regulations.
    To give some support to your effort I shall
    try to put down some questions to the Health
    Minister on this matter.

    This rule stopping gay men donate is ludicrous as well as discrimination.

    The blood banks also won't allow those people who have ever received donor blood to donate, which is equally crazy. I used to be a donor, but received blood in 2006 which was apparently good enough to donate then, but am no longer eligible to donate. It's infuriating to see those "it's not somebody else they're talking to- it's you" ads on TV while they reject loads of perfectly good blood for no good reason.

    I have done the survey, I have aided in the national NUS campaign on this matter and therefore have some information that I am more than happy to share. I have also already had my local MP on the matter too.


    A sickening display of homophobia in a world that is already behind the times.

    Well... When i give evidence i am giving a statement then getting questions etc... I would like to gather views on the ban, how the adverts make you feel, etc etc. I will prepare the survey and u can decide... it was Lord Alli who suggested it, that way people can have a direct imput. Your name wont be given to them if you dont want it to... as the committee hearings are all recorded and televised and shared with the media...

    i think what youre doing is really meaningful
    its obvious you care and thats really good
    i shall try and sign the petition!

    it doesnt matter what sexuality you are
    one blood donation from a gay/bi person could save someones life

    just because a boy loves a boy or a girl loves a girl, it doesnt matter
    theyre blood donation could really make a difference to someones life
    :)
