About Me

Tagline
Enigmatic Scotsman
Me, Myself, and I
Im a stay at home now. Been almost a year away from serious business now and immersing myself in two tasks. Bringing up our beautiful daughter Mila which is tiring but rewarding and now I'm also returning to photography after some 20 years. Check out my images and tell me what you think. Feel free to be critical.

Im on the lookout for subjects to do portraits of - thats where I want to start...I work well with cute toddlers, beautiful girls and craggy aging rock stars or hardworking welder types. You know who you are!

I love good film, music and literature and my home town of Gourock - even though I dont live there any more.

  • The stupidity of the canonical gospels

In response to a rude joke from my son I offered him one I had heard a few days before. The joke revolves around the whole Jesus Judas betrayal story. I told him that story sounded kind of made up and he said “hmm how ?” I said, “Well look there’s this 1st Century guy going around doin a’ they miracles”, as Billy Connolly would say, “a’ these deed punters walkin aroon! Am knackered!” So there’s this 1st Century guy doing all these miracles and generally causing political turmoil in the Roman province, feeding thousands from a single Lidl carrier bag, thousands of people flocking to see him in search of a cure, he travels into Jerusalem in a donkey, causes a good deal of trouble in the temple with the money lenders, argues with the high priests etc etc. Now then we’re told the story that Judas betrays him for 40 pieces of silver – and the New Testament has it that Judas has to indicate which one is Jesus with a kiss, whereupon he is arrested (Peter chopping off the ear of a centurion in the process?? – why isn’t Peter slain on the spot ? In fact come to think of it – why wasn’t Jesus just done away with on the spot – the Romans were that brutal generally I believe).

I said to my son, “Look the whole story really doesn’t ring true – here’s this first century guy who is basically very well known – a real celebrity – and we are expected to believe that the Romans need to have him pointed out”. I said, “it’d be kind of like the cops walking into a room of guys and saying, ‘OK which one of you guys is Elvis?’”

EVEN GOD ENJOYS A GOOD LAUGH...

There were 3 good arguments that Jesus was Black:
    1. He called everyone brother
    2. He liked Gospel
    3. He didn't get a fair trial

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Jewish:
    1. He went into His Father's business
    2. He lived at home until he was 33
    3. He was sure his Mother was a virgin and his Mother was sure He was God

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Italian:
    1. He talked with His hands
    2. He had wine with His meals
    3. He used olive oil

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was a Californian :
    1. He never cut His hair
    2. He walked around barefoot all the time
    3. He started a new religion

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was an American Indian :
    1. He was at peace with nature
    2. He ate a lot of fish
    3. He talked about the Great Spirit

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Irish:
    1 He never got married.
    2. He was always telling stories.
    3. He loved green pastures.

But the most compelling evidence of all - 3 proofs that Jesus was a woman:
    1. He fed a crowd at a moment's notice when there was virtually no food
    2. He kept trying to get a message across to a bunch of men who just didn't get it
    3. And even when He was dead, He had to get up because there was still work to do.

And that was the galling thing for him. He always believed himself, when sober and not stoned, to be sane, entirely logical and rational. But he was now faced with a growing knowledge that, no matter how much he believed himself to be a loving, considerate and morally upright member of the human race, he almost certainly had a brief moment of madness and bludgeoned an innocent young girl to a pulp before callously tipping her semi-naked body into a hole in the ground gouged out with his bare hands.

Apologies Mark - I assumed (shouldn't do it should we?) as it wasn't on your list it had been deleted. Also on AU you were saying something like noone wanted to debate you or something like that. You original reply didn't sound as though you were feeling the warmth but i have now noticed you sent your love so thanks. Sorry if it wasn't clear but peace with God is ,I believe forever. It is the assurance that your sins have been forgiven by God's mercy and that eternal life is yours and that after death you will be in Heaven. You may think that is delusional but I would say it is wonderful. It would be great if everyone on this planet had peace with themselves and everyone else but as we are all different that is unlikely. Of course we could all decide we were going to agree with you and that could be ok but we would all be wrong so ultimately that would be worthless. There will be daily problems but in view of eternity in heaven a few problems don't seem much.

hmmmm...how to respond to your analogy....ok drunkenly(in delusion?) you check your lottery numbers and think you don't have all six....mistakenly you believe Camelot will not be calling you to tell you about a big cheque.... rats.... You have to keep worrying about the mortgage...so you burn the ticket thinking it is worthless and irrelevant and go to sleep thinking that the next day will be just like all the rest (well perhaps with a bigger than usual hangover)... But in the light of morning you realise the ticket had the jackpot but now it's gone, it's too late. Hmm, The Bible says there will come a day different from every other. You could wake up in the morning and find that the worthless irrelevant book was right .. There is a God, the God of the Bible and ..it was true..and all the believers have gone to be with Him..and it's too late to change your opinion. Don't wait til it's too late

Anyway, if for no other reason than to be kind and answer your question, here goes: Why would I neccesarily find peace by believing in something? Peace with God is different from peace about anything else. Peace on earth can easily be broken by just one person or one act. Peace on earth will likely be temporary, peace with God based on what the bible says is, I believe, forever. And that peace can be yours by believing on God and His Son. This won't guarantee an easy life or even permanent hapiness on earth. Christians have as much daily problems as non believers. But even though problems happen a christian has peace with God. Hope that answers the question.

Sorry you ain't feeling the warmth of the season Mark. As you know we've been round things and back again and shown that rational thinking isn't always right. Even though you chose to delete the blog it doesn't change the points I made and the points made are still vaild. I'm not sure if you're bothered if I answer your points or not. It seems that you are so much greater than me in so many ways, including your delusion. So what is grace? There are different meanings with many words (you probably know that). Grace as in "amazing grace" would be the mercy shown by God in sending his Son Jesus to be punished for the wrong things (sin) we have done. The meaning in the quote I posted, I believe, is kindness or Christian values. As for your second point it simply repeats your many previous statements and can easily be turned right round again which might not achieve anything more than show once again rational thought cannot be used in relation to faith.
