  • Dave's Last Drag Update, November 2009

    Hey, what's up?

Apologies for the delay, but I had no access to a computer yesterday! And now I'm sitting here at a public computer in the Arts Block in Maynooth writing this. There's people sitting around me, and if any of them look at the screen, they'll probably think I'm a weirdo! Ah well, be graaand! Stupid broken laptop...

Anyway, this past month was eventful enough for Last Drag. We took a break from gigging (but ended up doing one DIABOLICAL performance - more on that in a sec :P ), and we've been working on new songs!! But first, a note on upcoming shows...

Last month, I "reported" (for lack of a better word) that we have two shows coming up in Dublin on the same day - an all-ages one and an over-18s one. Well, unfortunately we were taken off the bill for the over-18s one cos we didn't sell enough tickets (I think 0 is a very substantial number! :P ). Sucks, I know, BUT!! We still have the all-ages one, which is this Saturday, November 7th at 2:30pm in The Pint (whenever I say this to someone, they say "The POINT?!?" I'd be a bit more ecstatic if it was people! (and also, isn't The Point called The O2 now?)), which is in Eden Quay, Dublin 1! So if you're in the area (and dammit, you better be! :P ), come check out our second Dublin gig ever!!! We might even debut some new songs...

Which brings me to the new songs! Well, we've got two we're NEARLY finished (are we EVER fully finished a song?!?), and I for one am fairly excited about these two. We've got all the music done for them both, we just need to put lyrics (which we have, but haven't done the full songs WITH lyrics yet). Problem is, we won't have a chance to jam between now and Dublin, but who knows? We might just wing it and try the songs with lyrics for the first time on stage. :P We've also got a new cover or two, that we shall play in Dublin!!

Now, on October 24th, there was a gig in Tullamore, featuring awesome bands like State 79, Blind Ambition (who both fucking killed it! Well done lads!!) and others. Because we weren't playing, I decided to get shitfaced and go to the gig!! :D John and Gary had the same idea, and we all did so. I drank a shoulder of vodka, got super-pissed and thought it would be a great idea to ask Emer (who was organizing the gig) if I could MC it. She said yes and I made a total ass of myself. :)) But then we thought it would be a great idea to get up and play 3 songs - so we did. And it was officially our worst gig ever!!! :D :D :D We were off time, out of tune and just plain terrible. It wasn't even funny (ok, maybe it was a bit funny). But it was fun. :D Sorry about that everyone. :L

Anyway, pretty sure that's all the news. I better wrap it up there, cos I think I'm pissing off everyone around me with my constant tapping of the spacebar (which is REALLY loud on this keyboard...) and my chair creaks a lot too. So come to the Dublin gig if ya can, we'll try throw in as much new shit as we can - I can't wait!

And in true 2-days-after-Halloween spirit, I leave you with the thought of getting a blowjob from a ghost - cold and unsatisfying.

Also, I heard this during the week, which I thought was pretty funny: "I like my blowjobs the same way I like my stake: rare and bloody." :L That comes courtesy of that Kris dude who does some of the Cyanide & Happiness comics (it wasn't in a comic, he just said that).

    Happy Winter!! :D

    Love Dave
    xxx

  • Dave's Last Drag Update, October 2009

    Hello, hello, hello!

How're we all? Here's me update for October '09! I'm writing from an incredibly messy dorm room in NUI Maynooth!! And may I just say that college FUCKING RUUUUUUUULES!!! :D WOOOO, PARTY!!! :D :D :D

    Ahem... Anyway, moving on...

This past month was eventful enough for us Last Draggers... We had a couple of gigs, and shit like that. The first gig was a Battle Of The Bands in Loughrey's on the 19th of September! The gig was great craic, and we fucking WON!!! :D We were so happy and now we --

Kanye West: Dave, I'm really happy for you guys and I'mma let you finish, but State 79 were the greatest band that day. The GREATEST BAND!!

... OK... That was weird... But for once, I agree with you Kanye, ya douche. State 79 ruled that day! :)) Well done b'ys! ( www.bebo.com/thestaters )

But yeah, so that means we go through to the finals in DUBLIN!!! WOOOO! More info on that show when it comes out, but in the meantime, we have some more gigs in Dublin. More on that in a sec...

But our second gig this month was in support of our friends Murdock at their album release show (and the new album, by the way, is awesome). The crowd wasn't exactly sold out (for us anyway - in our defense, the people came to see Metal :P ) but we still had fun. :) Check out Murdock at www.bebo.com/murdocknoise .

And that about wraps up our gigs for last month. As for upcoming gigs, we've got two confirmed coming up in Dublin. :D These should be awesome. They're both on the same day, November 7th, one's all-ages in The Pint and one's over-18s in The Mezz (our first over-18s gig!!)! Thanks a million to Gig Line Promotions for these gigs! Tickets for the all-ages are €6 and €10 for the over-18s one, but if you're over 18 and wanna go to the all ages gig, you can pay the 6 quid into that and then get in to the over-18s one for FREE that night!!! :D Sweet deal. And for our "fans" in Tullamore and the surrounding area, we're tryna organize a bus up to Dublin for the day with Slaves Of Ares, so if you're interested, give us a comment and we'll arrange something (also comment if ya wanna buy a ticket to either of the gigs).

Anyway, that should be awesome! Some of you may be wondering what the fuck is going on with our demo. Well, cos we're indecisive bastards, we've decided to change up the tracklist a bit, and record a new song or two. We may shtick an acoustic cover on it, and we're gonna replace the track "Jack In My Head" with our newest (finished) song "Johnny Blues" (the one we usually close with at gigs). So we've gotta record that over the next while. We're planning on having our demo release show sometime in December with some awesome support acts, who're great friends of ours, so stay tuned. We shall let ye know.

On that note, we've decided to take a break from gigging for a while (apart from the Dublin ones - they were too good to pass up :D ) to work on our setlist. We wanna totally redo it with new covers and wanna work on some new songs too. The reason for this is cos with all the gigs we've played in Tullamore recently, we feel that people are getting (or will eventually get) bored with our set, so we're gonna mix it up a bit. We've got some awesome and interesting covers in mind, and we've been working on one or two new originals, so we can't wait ta change it all up. :) Stay tuned (I say that at the end of almost every paragraph :P )!

Not much else up. Couple of bits and pieces here and there. I might as well mention this now, even though I have practically 0% information about it (I only found out about it today, so nothing confirmed), but Last Drag might be participating in a certain project for charity over the next few weeks/months. Dunno much at all, like I said. But stay... Ah, I don't wanna say it again... Keep an oul eye on the page. There we go.

Anyway, that about wraps up this month's update. I shall leave you all with the thought of Kanye West sucking on a big, hairy --

    Kanye Wes

  • Dave's Last Drag Update, September 2009

Aw God, more people dying. :(

I'd just like to start this month's update again with a condolence. R.I.P. DJ AM. Many of you may not be familiar with him, but he was an awesome dude. Our thoughts are with his family and friends, including Travis Barker. Too many deaths this year. :(

Anyway, let's get on with the update.

Apologies for the delay, but I've been up to my balls and beyond with preparing for college!! Yes folks, I ACTUALLY made it! And come September 14th, I'll be shipping off to Maynooth to study Music Technology. I can't wait. And don't worry, I'll still be juggling Last Drag, along with a shit load of other activities in my busy, but awesome life!

Anyway, it's been a busy enough past month for us here in LD. We played a couple of gigs, and did some other... Stuff. First of all, on the 8th of August, Last Drag did a photoshoot with our two good friends Katherine and Shauna! It was an awesome day, and we had great fun, and during the month, we uploaded the interesting results!! So check out the pictures from the photoshoot in our albums. And thanks a million, soooo much, to Katherine and Shauna, cos we had great fun shooting the photos and the pictures themselves are AWESOME!!!

On the 15th of August, we played the Future Sounds Festival. Thanks to APA for putting us on the bill. We had fun, and it was our first outdoor gig! :)

We also had a couple of gigs in Tullamore this past month. Both were in Loughrey's. The first, on the 20th, was a gig for Chav-Monkey Promotions. We headlined this gig, and it was sooooooooooo much fun!! Great crowd, great gig! Thanks a million to the lads from CMPs for shtickin' us on the bill, and giving us the headlining spot no less!! We also met some new friends from the band State 79, who're all sound lads and an awesome band! Check 'em out on www.bebo.com/thestaters and if you can also follow mine and Jimmy (the bassist)'s conversations on Twitter. :P

(Oh cool, a guy named Haven just Tweeted me on Twitter! He's Blink's friend, alright!)

The second gig in Loughrey's, nine days later, was for Bullet Promotions. This gig was great too! We were so happy to see a crowd, just as big as the last gig, at this one. Maybe gigs are finally being revived in Tullamore? Anyway, this gig was great fun too! And we dedicated our last song, and this show in general, to DJ AM. Thanks also to The Remember Kids for apparently dedicating a song to us. People told me they dedicated "Just Dance" to us? But I dunno for sure, I was outside waiting for a lift, so I didn't see their set unfortunately. :( Regardless, they were sound lads, so thanks dudes! And thanks to Bullet Ps too!

That was pretty much it for August. We're still working on that drop-D song I spoke of last month. All we need to sort out musically is the bridge pretty much. In terms of lyrics, I've been really busy, and on top of that, I've had serious writer's block (I fucking HATE writer's block >:( ) so I've got nothing yet. But I think I might take some old, unused lyrics out of the vault and try and fit them into the song. Stay tuned, hopefully we'll have the song done by the next gig...

... Which is on the 20th of September!! We'll be supporting Murdock for their album release show in Joe Lee's, Tullamore, so try swing by if ye can! Should be a fun show. I'd love to debut the new song there, and possibly finally have the demo out?!? You'd swear we were a PROFESSIONAL band with the amount of time it's taking for this yoke to come out! And all we have to do is sort out artwork, but we're very busy, and keep running into complications. Also admittedly, we're very lazy at times (all the time). Ah well, we'll try.

As for other shows, nothing confirmed, but Gary said something about a charity gig? I dunno, we'll keep ya posted anyway!!

Well I guess there's nothing more to say. If anyone's got any questions, post 'em in the comments down there or whatever. Not that I'm so big-headed that I think people would care e
