- Knotty Pines Band began as a collaboration between two musicians that started in 2006. John Middleton, who spent nearly a decade playing drums in various rock bands in the Charleston and Boston areas, and David Strickland who has been involved in the Jacksonville, Fl music scene. John put down the drum sticks and picked up the banjo, and David gave up the piano for an acoustic guitar. ”We came together to get back to the roots of American music, to create something simple and honest, and to have fun in the process.” The band found its third member as a stroke of luck, when Robert Zielinski sat in on fiddle during a performance late in 2007. “We felt an instant kinship with Robert, and thought that his addition to the sound was just what we were looking for”, from then on they have been performing as a trio. Robert grew up in the Cleveland, Ohio area, and has been performing in and around the northeast Florida region for quite a few years. A full length album is expected early in 2009.
