- International recording artist, “Just A Vessel”™, also known as “JAV”, was born Duane Edward Portman II in Tucson, AZ, USA. Although born in Arizona, JAV was raised in the state of Ohio where he attended public school. JAV excelled academically all throughout his years in school. He graduated at the top of his class, completing high school with an “A” average. JAV was presented with numerous college scholarships and awards, but chose to pursue his passion, music. JAV studied classical piano from age 7 to age 18 and also sang in his local church choir during that time.
His academic and music background, have cultivated his unique style of blending “conscious” lyrics, to what he calls “complex melodies”, while addressing life issues and also staying true to the times. Just A Vessel specializes in Rap, Hip Hop, and Alternative music. Currently, Just A Vessel feels compelled to address the harsh realities around gangs, genocide and moral ethics. Just A Vessel and Vaughn Anthony Collaborate (Developing Story)

Depymusic's Management Team has confirmed that negotiations are in progress for a collaboration between international recording artist Just A Vessel and new American R&B singing sensation Vaughn Anthony.
"I am excited about the possibility of working with Vaughn. He's a pretty cool dude, and I respect the creativity of both him and his brother. About two years ago, Vaughn and his entourage granted me backstage access to see him perform at SOB's in New York City along side Rick Ross, Estelle and a few others... I shared a brief conversation with Estelle, got to sit down with a representative of John Legend's Home School Records and really see what the Home School movement and Vaughn was about. We have a slight acquaintance, seeing that we were both raised in Ohio. Hopefully, the investors of my company, Depymusic, realize the magnitude to which this endeavor could have not only on my career, or Vaughn's, but on the music scene itself. This would be the first, of many, high profile collaborations, scheduled in 2010 – 2011, for Just A Vessel and the American indie label Depymusic. Vaughn Anthony is the brother of 6-time Grammy Award winner John Legend, and has been progressing quickly in both the US and international music circle, recently, signing to the management of Dollarz Unlimited (responsible for breakthrough artist Cassie and Ryan Leslie) and singing with his brother, John, on the Evolver Tour in 2010.0 Comments 76 weeks
