ONBOARD CREW TAKE OAKLEY JIB-VID 2008 CROWN
Last night Onboard?s team of Tom Elliot, Peter Konig and Joonas Mustanen stole the Oakley Jib-Vid crown from the only team that has been on the podium at every other Jib-Vid Contest, Lockdown Projects, relegated to second in 2008. Whilst the Whitelines team, who were within a point of second place, took third with a hilarious spoof documentary.
The Oakley Jib-Vid has officially put itself on the map as the film contest that others should judge themselves by. This two-day spectacular goes beyond the call of duty for all the teams involved, with most not bothering with sleep during the 26 hours available to film, edit and produce a two minute master piece. The standard of all the Jib-Vids is a testament to the effort and determination made by every member of every team, and this year not a single film deserved to be ?last?.
Onboard?s ingenious film, which also won the Most Stoked prize nominated by the teams for the film that makes them most want to go snowboarding, combined brilliant riding with a humorous storyline revolving around a robotic snowboarder. There is no doubt that most of us dream of having a day in the park when we ride with as much technical ability, style and ease as Peter and Joonas used to stomp a catalogue of tricks too long to name here. These two snowpark demons had to rely on Tom?s stamina to edit the entire film as they admitted to being more hinderence than help in the cutting room.
This year?s relocation to Mayerhofen and the Vans Penken Park allowed all the riders to demonstrate their versatility, style and unquestionable talent, and with the weather providing a cheeky snowfall in the build up to the event everything was as close to perfection as you can possibly get. The snowfall remained uncharacteristically light and fresh in the backcountry providing an opportunity to ride powder and make use of the cliffs and features that are easily accessible in Mayrhofen ? the ultimate combination of conditions and facilities.
There was one gaping hole in the Oakley Jib-Vid this year and that was the absence of Adam Gendle one half of the double act that makes up Lockdown Projects, who is currently residing in Australia. Replacement Paddy Graham put down some moves of his own to also be the only skier riding for one of the top five films. Lockdown Projects also won the Best Editing prize whilst Whitelines snuck in front of them for Most Creative.
The only team not placed in the top five to win one of the additional team-only judged prizes was the Protest Team who won Best Filming, a popular winner amongst the teams. Earlier in the day the Protest Team became the first team to fall fowl to the hand in penalty when they were 5 minutes late. However, an appeal to the rest of the teams saw the automatic 30% penalty deduction abolished just hours before the projection began much to the relief of the team.
The Oakley Snowboard team, who eventually finished in fifth, found themselves having to make some last minute alterations to their script when team member Vicci Miller suffered a nasty broken collarbone requiring surgery. Luckily the efficiency of the staff at the new Innsbruck hospital saw her out and back in front of the camera with a few hours to spare before the midday hand in deadline! Another team to pull together a film no matter what was the Fall Line Magazine team who found themselves down to only two members by registration, then after a day of their concept refusing to work due to weather conditions and bad luck they returned to the mountain on the first lifts of the second day to produce their entire film in just three hours!
On Friday afternoon, whilst preparations were being made for the projection night and after party, the Oakley Jib-Vid Best Trick Contest took place in the Vans Penken Park, which was open to the public and team members alike. During the session an ?Oakley Jib-Vid Flip and Grip? competition took place producing a back flip frenzy including0 Comments 592 days

It's nearly here...
Jib-Vid team selection completed
Entries for the Oakley Jib-Vid 2008 are now closed and the expectation for the event of the season is reaching boiling point. It is our great pleasure to announce the wildcard teams that have qualified, details of which can be found at the official website.
The caliber of all the teams that took the time to enter this year’s Oakley Jib-Vid made selection an exceptionally hard task. The pressure is definitely on the defending champions and the other invited teams as this is the one competition on the winter calendar when an unsponsored group of dedicated individuals can rock the boat to steal the crown.
Vans Penken Park spot check online – it’s sick!
For a taster of what to expect from Mayrhofen and the outstanding Vans Penken Park check out this year’s spot check on www.jib-vid.com, which will give you a glimpse of their amazing set up. In it, Ulrik Badertscher rips the park apart and finishes with perhaps the most stylish backside 1260 Japan we have ever seen.
Devil Gun headline the Oakley Jib-Vid 2008
To make sure the projection night and afterparty of the season storms into the history books we have Devils Gun from London, bringing their own bag of beats and revelry to Austria’s Sports Lounge. Check them out at http://www.myspace.com/devilsgun and let us know what you think through our interactive Oakley Jib-Vid Bebo site.
