For the first time the Festival will open with a pub quiz at Hootananny where all the questions are loosely based on books.

GP TAYLOR - SORCERY AND SHADOWS
Already billed by some as the next JK Rowling, GP Taylor's Shadownacer is a powerful story of mystery, magic, and the battle for good over evil as an eighteenth century sorcerer attempts to summon the dead to rule the modern world. This brilliant book for older children has enjoyed sell out success across the world, having been translated into 22 languages with GP Taylor himself being described as 'Hotter than Potter' by The Guardian. The latest exciting development is that the movies rights for Shadowmancer have just been snapped up. with Hollywood stars Johhny Depp and Mel Gibson rumoured to being involved in the big screen version.

KATIE GRANT - HEADS AND HATBOXES

Her captivating adventures are set at the time of the crusades and follow a feisty heroine, a mythical horse, evil traitors and two brothers determined to become noble knights and join King Richard on the Crusades. Her first novel, Blood Red Horse, the initial part of the DeGranville trilogy, was published in 2004 and was closely followed by the second and third installments of Green Jasper and Blaze of Silver. All three books have wowed the critics with their epic tales of bravery and honour on the journey to Holy Land. A freelance journalist and part-time teacher of Medieval History at Glasgow University, Katie knows her subject. Her talk is called 'Heads and Hatboxes' and will appeal to anyone with a sense of adventure and imagination.
