| Paul Hourican grew up in the picturesque north Dublin suburb of Malahide. His childhood days were spent mostly down by the beach swimming in the freezing waters of the Irish Sea or adventuring with friends through the green fields and woodlands of the surrounding area. From an early age nature played a role in Hourican's life and later this was to be reflected in his songwriting. It was not music however that Paul displayed much promise for as a youngster, rather at school he became interested in poetry, plays and the stage. Though his family and friends insist that Hourican always sang, his first creative expression actually came via the vessel of poetry.
After discovering an unused guitar at the age of fifteen a very tumultuous relationship with music began. 2004 saw the birth of Hurricane Records, Hourican's own record label set up for the purpose of releasing Paul's records and ensuring that he would maintain control of his career, artistic and otherwise. A stint of sporadic gigs and radio guest spots followed with acclaimed Near FM and Anna Livia FM presenter Peter Grogan declaring "Hourican will soar to the top of the Irish music industry like an eagle ... The material I have heard from him so far is not alone promising, not alone engaging but indeed brilliant! ... They do not come much better than this young man." 'One step forward', as Hourican's debut single, was released and saw him grace the TV screens for the first time playing live on TV3, City Channel and TG4. The single was embraced wholeheartedly by national Irish radio as well, earning him an army of new fans including renowned presenters with Ireland's leading radio station Today FM Ray Darcy and Tom Dunne, who put it simply by calling the single "a great, great record"! Hotpress man Phil Udell clearly concurred calling it "a really good song ... hopefully there will be more to come"!
More to come there is with 2007 seeing the completion of work on Hourican's debut album 'Let The Enemy In' to be released through Hurricane Records in early 2008 and distributed exclusively both mechanically and digitally by Warner Music Ireland who, upon hearing the record, were more than eager to get involved. Two singles will precede the album's release with the first 'All i ever wanted' planned for this August.
