The Best of the French Horror films
Viva La France!!!!
Ok maybe just their Horror movies; to be honest I pretty much hate everything about France. They are rude, they are responsible for the only international terrorism my country has ever experienced and they have a nasty habit of beating my rugby side by whatever dodgy means.
With that said those French Bastards do know how to make a good Horror flick and over the past Decade have released some absolute rippers. High Tension/ Switchblade romance was the first to make an impact a good 6 or 7 years ahead of the rest of the pack. The story was refreshing the violence was uncensored and the twist made it all that little bit more devious. This was the first time France had released a horror film that had pricked the ears of the international audience and signalled the end to what had been Asia’s domination of the industry in the previous 3 or 4 years.
Spain seemed to get in on the action with several films from their region causing a buzz but nothing could possibly prepare the Horror community for what the French had waiting in the wings. After the world had been introduced to the Gore/Horror film with Saw and Hostel it was time for things to be kicked into over drive, taboos that had been thought untouchable 20 years earlier were soon to make big screen debuts in several films. Inside and Frontiers came out with a roar, Frontiers a film similar to the Texas chainsaw massacre in theme brought a whole new meaning to being in the wrong place at the wrong time the violence was plenty and the torture was cruel but the worst was still to come.
Inside was the first move that made me turn away in disgust. Many films like Rosemary’s baby and the Dawn of the Dead remake and touched on the subject of Demonic babies but horror law has always been touchy about picking on the pregnant woman when she was on the good side of things. This was not the case in Inside, the entire movie is about one woman’s obsession with another’s unborn baby and everything you think that will go wrong, goes horribly and gruesomely wrong. Everything about this film is Epic from the gore to the chilling music a movie by which all gore flicks will be measured in the future.
Then came Martyrs, it is hard to release an original horror film, implement an idea that has not been explored yet still manage to instil the similar feelings of dread that any good horror film should but doing it twice in one movie is an absolute miracle. Martyrs is a film of two halves either would of alone made an intriguing stand alone film but combined present a film that will leave you wondering if humans could really be so cruel? Brutality and hidden messages keep you guessing at where the film will take you but if you could tell me you knew what was going to happen in the end of the film after the first hour of the movie then you good sir are a liar
If you haven’t seen any of these movies you probably spent the last 10 minutes wondering WTF! I’m blathering on about; fortunately it is not too late to redeem yourself. Go to your local DVD store and pray like mad they have a copy of these on hand and then spend the remainder of your weekend getting so messed up that come Monday you will start weeping every time someone talks to you.

Happy Halloween!
Happy Halloween
Tis that time of the year where small children knock on your door threatening to maul you unless you hand over plentiful amounts of sugar loaded treats, the time of year when Dentists all over the world attend parties where they do nothing but cackle and rub their greedy hands together with glee (I swear it’s true!), the time of year when parents around the world draw straws, flip coins and play Russian Roulette to see who will be fated to escort the evil ones from door to door, its the time of year when the career change to professional paedophile becomes that little bit easier and the cliental come right to your door begging for that candy you had so much trouble unloading out of the back of your van, the time of year when that ram bar on the front of your car is given new life and your wives new white bed sheet finds itself on the wrong end of a pair of scissors, the time of year that will end with the sound of violent Diarrhoea and vomiting and the tears of some lucky child who found that razor blade old man Jenkins had hidden so well, Its that time of year when ghosts and goblins and shit used to come out and do stuff but now cant be arsed because no one will pay them an appearance fee, its Halloween everybody and unless you live in America it probably doesn’t mean shit to you.
Happy Haunting!

The top 13 Haunted Houses in America
Whilst perusing the news the other day i came across this list of the top Haunted Attractions in the good ol U.S of A. Now i can vouch for the States and their Haunted attractions as if there is one thing the U.S knows how to do well is Halloween.
The following list has been officiated by Reuters and published nby www.Hauntworld.com
1. 13th Gate Haunted House, Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Rated as the best haunted house in America two years due to its detail. Journey through 13 indoor and outdoor themes to face your nightmare, be it crawling through a crematory oven and an old hearse to being lost in dark tunnels or standing on a rickety bridge over live snakes.
2. Netherworld Haunted House, Atlanta, Georgia
Netherworld is one of the few haunted houses that dedicate an army of monsters to scare patrons while they wait in line and hundreds more waiting for you to enter the door. In two haunts, Blood Night and Zombie Rampage, you escape tree demons, vampires, and eyeless blood drinking hemophores.
3. The Beast, Kansas City, Missouri
One of the biggest indoor haunted attractions, The Beast spans five floors. Set up in 1991, Kansas City's most elaborate haunted house has a werewolf forest, streets of Jack the Ripper's London and the swamp.
4. The Darkness Haunted House, St. Louis, Missouri
The Darkness, now in its 15th year, features three haunted attractions including Terror Visions in 3D. Enter a forbidden city of the dead to encounter a massive minotaur and T-Rex, then come face-to-face with head hunting savages, massive monsters, and attacking snakes.
5. House of Torment, Austin, Texas
This Halloween witness the rise of the abomination at the House Of Torment that uses Hollywood quality set design, lighting and sound to get you jumping.
6. Dent Schoolhouse, Cincinnati, Ohio
The Dent Schoolhouse features story telling, horrific set design, and amazing fright inside one of the creepiest buildings for a haunted house.
7. Bates Motel, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Bates Motel is quite well known for its haunted hayride featuring the most amazing pyrotechnics ever included in a haunt.
8. Haunted Schoolhouse, Akron, Ohio

9. Bayville Screampark, Long Island, New York

Bayville Screampark features 5 haunted houses from a mansion, 3D clown maze to a haunted forest and more.
10. House of Shock, New Orleans, Louisiana

11. Dead Acres, Columbus, Ohio
The actors are just as intense as the theme, set design and special effects.
12. Headless Horseman, Ulster Park, New York
One of the best haunted hayrides in America where the Headless Horseman himself chases you over an old rickety bridge. Also included in the old eerie farm are haunted houses, a cornfield maze, gift stores and so much more.

Movie Review - Let the right one in
by

Every now and again you hear about a foreign film that is meant to be a something different, films like The Ring, High Tension and REC. have all fallen in this category and all have lived up to their respective buzz. When I first heard about this film I was exited by the prospect of Sweden putting something refreshing and I am pleased to say I was not disappointed
The Good
"Let the right one in" is straight off the bat a film that will have you thinking, all be it you may not start thinking until after the film is finished, you will with out a doubt find yourself wondering about this film long after watching it. The story follows the meeting of a 13 year old boy and a vampire boy/girl who appears to be of this age as well. This movie is not afraid of any topic; you will find everything from bullying to my two dads’ there is even a part which had me questioning how they weren’t done for showing an underage girl naked. The Visuals are stunning and going back to my English lessons the Director was trying something with the Pure White of the scenery and young boy and the Darkness of the Film’s plot and young vampie girl. Although billed as a Romance/Horror I can promise you the Later is not missing, the second to last scene in this film is officially one of the creepiest I have seen. The Acting is great from all parties as far as I could tell witht he language barrier and what I thought may be some shoddy props early in the film were replaced with some excellent CG cats later on.
The Bad
I love when I don’t have a lot to say here and it happens that film is just that good. If you are not a fan of subtitles then you may have problems here as you need to read everything to understand what’s going on, on top of this, the version I watched had a few grammar issues in the subtitiles but nothing that did too much damage to the plot. The film drags a little at times so don’t watch it expecting it to be Van Helsing, adult overtones coupled with the sometimes slower pace of the film means this isn’t a movie for anyone who still has a bedtime.
The Rest
If you would like a break from your typical film and are perhaps looking for something that still has all the gore but will make you think then "Let the right one in should be top of your list". The films borrows heavily from Vampire myths and you may even see something’s that other Vampire flicks tend to leave out. Word is that there is an American remake in the works; this could be very good or bad. The Remake will be based on the book and not the film and if it is done right I wouldn’t be surprised to see it being the first Horror film in a long time to pick up something at the Academy awards as the potential is there. Don’t wait for the remake; the film is slowly being released around the world so keep an eye out for it at smaller festival cinemas and also the DVD, well worth a watch.

DVD Review: Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer
by
Anthony Peters
Starring: Robert Englund0 Replys 49 weeks
Trevor Matthews
The Good
I want to start off by saying I have watched two movies in the last 24 hours and both although somewhat Original in premise were pretty much combination of other movies, this may not be a bad thing but I wonder if the idea well is starting to run a little dry in Hollywood. Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (or JB:MS as I shall refer to it to save my wittle fingers) is a blend of Evil Dead and Slither, this means obviously the film leans to a comedic approach with no real attempt to be frightening. The costumes in JB:MS are quite incredible, quite often films with smaller budgets lean to heavy on CG which can take a lot away from the film, the costumes in this film seem almost cartoonish at times and this in any other serious horror film would be a negative but suits the mood of JB:MS perfectly. Trevor Matthews portrayal of Jack Brooks was the movies saving grace for me. You learn from the start of the film that Jack has a short temper and Matthews plays on this quirk through out the film, it has been a long time since I have watched a horror film that actually made me give shit about the main character and this leads me to compare him to the likes of Ash from Evil dead where he the comedic relief without really cracking a joke. The music was a relief, once again with smaller budget films its to easy to end up with a relentless tirade of whatever local punk band was happy to have their music thrown into a films backing soundtrack, this is avoided with a great backing track which sounds like it was put together by an orchestra, perfect when you want something that actually suits the mood of a film.
The Bad
This film is far from the next Shaun of the Dead, a lot of the funny in this film is MIA, while I’m happy there are no fart gags and no yo mama jokes, when you make a film about a monster slaying plumber you expect a little more of the funny. When I said this film was a blend of Evil Dead and Slither I meant just that. It follows the classic formula of someone living in a relic of a building digs something up that eventually turns them into some sort of monster eventually leading them to go bat shit crazy on whomever is closest until they are stopped by the hero, sounds familiar? Try just about any 80’s horror films. Its not just the plot that seems to borrow from movies past but even some of the character design’s are updated version of older movie monsters, I swear the bad guy from this and Slither could be brothers. My main gripe with this film is that its plot is very errrr strange. JB:MS is an origins film when it shouldn’t be, I always figured an origin film needs to have a character people should know already, this isn’t the case. If you want to get really into it the film shouldn’t even be called Jack Brook: Monster Slayer it should be renamed Jack Brooks: Really furious plumber dude because this is pretty much what he is for 90% of the movie. In my personal opinion the film finished where it should have started picking up leaving a lot to be wanted.
The Rest
JB:MS is not a bad movie nor is it a fantastic movie, for shear entertainment it is worth a watch just for the acting and monster design, yes the plot is a little weak but if ever a film needed a sequel this is the one, potentially the Evil dead of this generation you could quite easily pick up where this one finished and get a good solid movie that actually has something to do with the films title. Robert Englund seems to jump from low budget horror film to low budget horror film when he’s not donning the claw but I think this film will get a him a tick in the good decision category, fans of the Englund will be happy to know he does mentally disturbed professor pretty well even if he goes a little over the top in the beginning. I say see this film for the hope that there should be a sequel, it’s not a terrible film and if you liked Evil Dead an -
DVD Review: Dead Set

The Good0 Replys 51 weeks
I am happy I got my hands on this DVD, you lot in the U.K made me very jealous after telling me how good it was. Straight off the bat I was happy to see the DVD is region 0 which makes it compatible with all DVD players including the PS3 and because it is made for TV it looks great on a widescreen TV with no black boxing. The Series itself is Fantastic, I had worried that the concept could have gone either way but this is easily on par with the likes of the Dawn of the Dead remake and 28 day/weeks later. I am going to stick my foot out now and suggest that The U.K seems to be turning out better Zombie flicks these days then the states, hell I think that may even warrant a poll. The storyline is nothing short of brilliant with many cameos from past big brother housemates ensuring that this show was always going to be a hit with at least one audience. The zombies are great and I couldn’t help thinking the noises and ticks (especially Davina’s) were similar to the Raptors from the last Jurassic park movies, add in some great makeup and fake body bits and blood and the zombies take on a very 28days/weeks later physiology. This is a zombie series defined by the uniqueness of its plot and characters yet doesn’t stray far from the traditional zombie formula.
The Bad
*Spoiler alert*
Nothing major to say here, just a few little things. The Actress playing Kelly didn’t do crazy so well, I felt when she first entered the house she hammed it a bit but she pulled it together for the rest of series. Deadset suffers from the same zombie conundrum as every zombie film; why do they eat some people and then let the rest turn into zombies, a few plot holes, nothing to major, The supposedly dumb zombies are smart enough to hide behind a card board cut out but not smart enough to open a door, at the end the zombies seem to be eating someone but there is no one left so bugger knows who they are eating. The last bone I have to pick is that this is the first zombie series/film that doesn’t offer an explanation for why these people have become zombies, this actually lets the shows writers get away with things they wouldn’t have got away with had there been an explanation for the outbreak. That pretty much sums up my complaints but there is still nothing there to really take away from the series.
The Everything else
*Spoiler Alert*
The DVD has about 5 pages of extras on it ranging from deleted scenes to behind the scene footage, this is quite a lot when you consider this is a made for T.V Series and when you compare it to your standard Horror movie its something you would only expect to see on a special edition. The series works out be just over 2 hours but it flows at such a pace you never find yourself bored. I loved the producer in deadest, if there was an award for best asshole in a movie or series he would have to take the cake, his death scene ranks well up there with some of the most gruesome you will see on either Screen and as the series rolls out you know this guy is going to suffer the worst death scene in the show. Deadset is great and easily watched by anyone who isn’t squeamish; the DVD is superb value for money and is the perfect watch for anyone wanting to kill a rainy afternoon.

I didnt relaise it was a horror movie when i sat down to watch it. My mate had taped it of the Movie Chanel as it was called back than and after 20 minutes i thought it was going to be a run of the mill gangster film. Another 20 minutes later and it was chaos i was speechless for the rest of the movie. The sequels werent great. The Black Vietnam Vet Frost was my fave secondary character! "I was in nam back in 75 behind enemy lines"
Awesome movie. Didnt realise there were another 3 afterwards. I have them on dvd but im skeptical.
Some loveage guys....
Dusk Till Dawn guys what did everyone think it the first time they saw it?

The Movies.
Havent seen it but am fucking keen to, from what i can tell the die hard horror fans hate it but those new to the genre seem to enjoy the style of the whole thing.
I don't wanna undo your PR, but I have to be honest with my Horror brethren - Trick r Treat is PANTS.
It's like a run-of-the-mill Sky 1 horror special. Sure it has "Suke" from True Blood in it, but it's an anthology of somewhat-spooky stories rolled into one film, all on Halloween night.
The stories aren't that interesting, but they're OK, i guess. Maybe use as an introduction to horror, because it's definitely not scary. It's like the film tries to be a few things, but ends up being just....blah.
I'd recommend skipping the film. If you do watch it, you have been warned!
They absolutely spooged for it on Rotten Tomatoes ( http://ie.rottentomatoes.com/m/trick... ) 100% Fresh with ave 8.5 score - IT IS NOWHERE NEAR THAT GOOD. It's like a SIX...MAYBE.
If you LOVE Horror and think average spook-fests are amazing, then go ahead. But lower those expectations!
Great site man! I hope it gets busier over the next while
