"Make a difference, spread the word, invite your friends"

Hi, this is the page for HIV: What's the story? - the British Red Cross campaign which lets young people know that HIV and AIDS is still a big problem, which can affect all of us, and shows you what you can do about it.

Watch the videos of Shabna, Marco and Kirsty, they all know each other and they're all worried about HIV in different ways. The story starts with Shabna: she's just had Marco's baby but he's had a one night stand with a girl everyone's saying has HIV. Now Marco feels guilty and doesn't know who to turn to. Shabna's best friend Kirsty wants to help her but that would mean admitting she's living with HIV herself. What should they do?

HIV: What's your story?

Tell us what you think. Do you have your own stories? Please join in the blog. If you want to know more, have a look at www.redcrosshiv.org. We're showing you videos of how young people around the world deal with HIV and we want to hear what you think.

Are the videos acted?
Some of you have been asking whether the videos are acted, I posted an earlier comment to say that they are based on real experiences, but played by actors.
If you want to see some videos of "real" people living with HIV, and of "real" volunteers who are helping, go to : www.redcrosshiv.org.

So far, about 100 of you got an average score of 62% in our quiz...
Isn't that amazing, if most of us think we know all there is to know by now about HIV/Aids?
Can you beat the score of 62%?

Fighting discrimination isn't uncool.
There's a lot of stories that go around about HIV and AIDS, some of them are true, some of them aren't. Once you know the facts you start to realise that there are all sorts of people all over the world who are affected by HIV and many of them are just like you. It shouldn't be something that people are labelled with, it's an illness like any other and people who are living with HIV just want to get on with their lives. There's medication and support for young people affected by HIV but no matter where you are in the world there's still stigma and fear surrounding it. People are afraid to talk to you. People think you get these illnesses because you deserve them. How would you feel it it were you? How can we reduce this kind of discrimination? What do you think?

How you can help
According to our survey of 14-25 year olds in the UK, 1 in 7 would NOT remain friends with someone living with HIV. Help fight this stigma, spread the word, invite your friends

According to our survey two in five 14-25 year olds have not received information about how to prevent HIV infection. One way you can help the British Red Cross educate more people and fight the discrimination and stigma around HIV is by inviting your friends to join this group and get more people talking about HIV.

Also HIV/AIDS prevalence is totally overblown in the West. Only a tiny percentage have, or are likely to have, AIDS in their lifetime. The UN (of all organisations) recently admitted as much.

No-one reproduces nowadays so I suppose it doesn't really matter if people contract the virus but live happily for decades.

This is a good site and a great way to get the message out there to younger people. There is still so much stigma attatched to HIV/AIDS and not enough information out there.Bebo as well as many other internet sites is a great way of getting the info to people. You are doing a fab job.Keep up the good work.I hope that some of the statistics especially regarding figures in the UK shock people into being more sensible ,and sensitive to any people they may come into contact with the disease.
