About Me

Me, Myself, and I
Having spent all my life in Renfrewshire love led me to North Lanarkshire where I now live with my fantastic wife Gillian, wonderful daughters Holly (6) & Lucy (19 months), and Max - a smelly old dog.

Having worked for Jobcentre Plus for nearly 9 years I moved into financial services in late 2007 and have spent the next 22 months working as a financial advisor with the Co-Operative in their field sales. Having got all my qualifications I moved to Santander in August where I am a Financial Planning Advisor based between their Abbey branches in Greenock & Largs.
Music
My iPod has over 14, 000 songs on it with plenty of variety. It goes from Bruce Springsteen to Emiliana Torrini to Morbid Angel. But heavy guitar based stuff is my main love (especially Thrash Metal, Death Metal, Hardcore Metal, erm, anything Metal really). My all time faves are Nirvana, Biffy Clyro, Slayer, Hatebreed, Slipknot, Nine Inch Nails, Machine Head, Stone Sour, Marilyn Manson, Prodigy and Embrace.
Films
Kevin Smith films (especially Clerks and Chasing Amy), Pulp Fiction, Star Wars Episodes I to VI, Fight Club, Se7en, Donnie Darko, Eternal Sunshine Of A Spotless Mind, When Harry Met Sally..., Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and many more that escape me right now.
Sports
Although I'm starting to take up an interest in golf (very early stages), it's football all the way for me. Love it, it's my life. Now in my 23rd year as a Glasgow Rangers season ticket holder. But only half my heart is red, white & blue, the other half is black & blue as I am a massive Inter fan too - even used to go to Milano to see them whenever I could, before family responsibilities kicked in. I have a soft spot for Newcastle United due to my love for the Geordies and their city. When it comes to international football, thanks to my Nana and my general outlook on life, it's the flag of St. George where my affections lie and I proudly wear three lions on my shirt. As someone who is extremely passionate about football, while I have a deep love for Rangers and Inter, it's fair to say that I have very strong feelings of an opposite nature for all things Celtic, Milan & Juventus.
Scared Of
Not sure if I'm scared of much except for Christianity (greatest evil ever created by man), and I suppose spiders (and creepy crawlies generally) certainly press the wrong buttons.
Happiest When
At the football, especially at Ibrox or Guiseppe Meazza (that's the San Siro's actual name, btw), away days with Rangers, when visiting Newcastle-Upon-Tyne or Italy, playing Football Manager on my laptop, playing my Xbox 360 (especially FIFA, Tiger Woods, Guitar Hero or Rock Band), listening to music and going to gigs. But for me the only thing that can rival going to the footy are days out with my wife and daughters.

  • Why do we not celebrate the birth of Jesus on his actual birthday?

Just to prove that even a little research goes a long way, who wants to know the truth about Christmas?

I have known for some time that biblical experts have stated that Jesus was not born on what we now know as Christmas Day and that his exact date of birth is unknown. I even knew that it had been moved to take over from a Pagan festival. But I didn't know the ins and outs of it all. Until now.

First off, why do we celebrate Christmas Day on the 25th December? Because the Romans told us to. The Pagan Sun Festival was December 25th and the birth of Jesus and Christmas as we know it was moved to this date to take over from this Pagan celebration (and remember folks Pagans just worshipped nature, much like the Red Indians, and were only depicted as Satanists by Christianity in order to undermine them). It was Pope Julius I that first announced that the official bithdate of Jesus Christ would be 25th December around 320AD. 5 years later Constantine The Great (the first Christian Roman Emporer) introduced Christmas as an immovable feast on 25th December. It wasn't until 354AD that Bishop Liberius of Rome ordered his members to celebrate the birth of Jesus on 25th December.

So when was he actaully born? If we take the Bible as a trusted record of the event, then based on what is written in that, astrological records, and modern science we should be celebrating his birthday in March, the exact date is hard to pin down, most experts estimate the first week of the month. For example, the Bible clearly states that shepherds were watching over their flock of sheep in fields when he was born, yet in those parts at that time shepherds had their sheep in fields only from March to October, never in winter due to snow being common (the middle east can get really cold in winter especially at night).

The year in which he is considered to have been born is also wrong. Jesus wasn't born in 0AD (for a start we go from 1BC to 1AD, there is no year zero). In 525AD Pope John I commissioned the scholar Dionysius Exiguus to establish a feast calendar for the Church. Dionysius also estimated the year of Christ's birth based upon the founding of the city of Rome. Unfortunately because of insufficient historical data he arrived at a date at least a few years later than the actual event.

The Gospels record Jesus' birth as occurring during the reign of Herod the Great. Herod's death is recorded by Jewish historian Flavius Josephus and occurred in the spring of 4 B.C. Therefore, Christ's birth had to take place at least four years before the traditional date.

The wise men (of whom no actual numerical amount of them was recorded in the bible, it was later considered as 3 to coincide with the amout of gifts left) were actually astrologers (probably from Persia or southern Arabia) following a star which we now know was a comet (thanks to information in the astrological annuals kept by the Chinese at the time which were much more detailed than those of the Middle East). Which exact comet it was we don't know but on the evidence at hand there are three suggestions - one in 6BC, one in 5BC and one in 4BC, with other astrological evidence in the Bible pointing to events that happened in 6BC.

So there you have it. Most of the world consider Jesus to be born on 25th December 0AD (a date that does not exist so can't be right) when in reality they'd be better off using 1st March 6BC as the date.

Yet more proof, as if it was needed, that Christmas is an utter sham. But that's the problem with religion, it's all man made and was created by the few to opress the many. Mind control of the highest order. Organised religion is just a cult on a bigger budget.
