Coming from a small town in the middle of the Lake District, surrounded by mountains and numerous amounts of sheep, you wouldn’t expect to find that music was one of the most popular forms of getting-away-from-the-world. But from an early age, Fiona has written and played music for audiences ranging from just her parents - to a crowd of over 1000 people.
With her mum being a music teacher and her dad playing tapes and records of typical 80’s rock and roll it was hard to get away from it. “The one thing I love the most about playing music, is that I can put myself into it, and playing my music to a crowd of people is one of the few places I can feel really comfortable.”
“Some of my main influences are my mum, obviously, and all the community musicians I have worked with in the last few years. They really are a great inspiration because they focus on what younger musicians have to offer, and for me it’s a real confidence boost. Having the confidence of knowing that what you’re doing i

Howdy Do
Well.. Bli-ME that was one cracker of a festival
Solfest is one of THE best festivals ever invented, and with the five years I've been going, this years was one of the best!
Thanks to those early morning risers who popped along to the Drystone on the sunday - the lighting/sound/stage guys were lovely
Great gig
So this is blogging?
I'm not sure if this is an oppurtunity to update you on whether or not I have written new songs etc, or whether I have gigs coming up, but hello anyways.
This summer has been extremely fantastic so far.
However unsatisfactory the weather has been, it's been a great one for music.
The first gig of the summer was at the Brickyard, supporting opera house... really good gig actually, the brickyard has lovely acoustics and rather nice bottled water.
Even though Opera House didn't play, three tonne wasp were excellent as headliners
Second gig of the summer.. hmm.. Flower Festival in Penrith.
Having just recovered from a cold, and losing my voice, the 3 songs I managed to wangle out weren't that bad, and people seemed to like it - even standing for a period of ten minutes in the penrith sunshine managed to turn my hair even gingerer.. which is completely not what colour it is naturally..
The next gig - Cockermouth Kirkgate Centre Supporting WATERS EDGE
Great band actually, thoroughly enjoyed them. The set went well too, apparantly the place was haunted - kinda creepy
Seventeenth of June - Possibly one of the best festivals I've ever been to in my 17 years of festivalling - lovely stage and even the eventualilty of playing hungover didn't hinder everyones spirits - great site crew too thanks rough beats
Bojangles was the next venue on the list - not a big turnout but didn't stop people eating their food and listening to me wail in the corner - lovely place to have a gig
23rd JULY brickyard with pearl and the puppets and THE FOXES - great people, again, great bottled water, and lovely acoustics. Definitly worth checking out whats on at the Brickyard during the week, normally hosts great musicians
KENDAL CALLING FESTIVAL - Solar Stage - this stage was powererd TOTALLY by the sun itself - you know - the big gaping orange hole in the sky that appears oh so often? Well thank you sunshine for powering my set. I was up against T and La Touche (awesome reggae band) on the opposite stage - however it went rather well - even the mud wasn't too bad either.
Anyways guys - after boring you with this first ever blog i've ever done - Come to Solfest - 1 o clock on the sunday - Drystone Stage - BE THERE
I'm off to dye my hair an ominous BROWN colour
x
“Fiona Clayton treated the crowd to a short but sweet glimpse of her greatness. Words can not describe just how wonderful an artist 16-year-old Fiona is. Fresh from an appearence on Solfest’s main stage, Fiona captivated the grathered crowd with her tender, yet strong vocal delivering and exquisuite guitar playing. She could well produce PhasingHz’s first platinum selling album!” - CWHerald, Andy Keogh 2007″
