The Dot Indigi organisation will apply to ICANN for a new domain name <.indigi> (or other if the community suggest a different version) to represent all Indigenous groups of the world, thus removing the existing Indigenous representation issues of the predominantly English Internet. The ability to include non English characters will be a priority.
The <.indigi> domain will offer registration at the 2nd Level Domain to indigenous organisations who would then govern their own domain name space and resell/distribute 3rd Level Domain names or retain a general project type name at the 2nd Level via the official .indigi registrars.
Aloha kaua e ke hoahanau - well, someone has to be first on this here page, so may as well be me. Since I live i Hawaii, and only get to read the NZ Herald a couple of weeks after the latest-breaking news items at the university library (surprisingly they stock it and have done for years - saves me shelling out $US8 - yes, I'm on finite budget like most of us) - so wondering what the status is of the proposed amendment (Sec.92a) of the copyright law - last I heard, it was pulled. Also wondering what Maori response has been. Anyway, read Chooky's blog about dotindig - and thought I should get with the program and bring myself up to speed. Alaha wale no...
