Daring Feet is Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company's youth dance group, open to teenagers aged between 13 and 20 years old.

Daring Feet works like a real dance company. It runs throughout the year and members can be involved in classes, productions, workshops and performances. It is a contemporary youth dance company that draws on many different non-competitive dance forms and styles. The emphasis is on creativity and expression. There is a lot of improvisation and movement exploration, and each member brings his or her own taste and ideas to the work.

It is a great way to develop your performance skills, to learn from professional dancers, and to experience different ways of creating choreography.

Previous Daring Feet members have gone on to become professional dancers or to take dance at further education. Some have also gone on to do drama/ theatre studies.

    Making Moves : Choose a Direction

    Watch BBC One on Sunday 23rd November at 5.40pm to see a short feature on Echo Echo's upcoming Youth Dance Development Course - featuring Daring Feet members!

    The producer of the BBC Lifeline programme came to the Echo Echo Dance Studio last week to film Daring Feet and interview Steve and others. The programme will be repeated on the following Monday night and Wednesday lunch time.

    Hopefully the clip will highlight youth dance in Northern Ireland and help raise the profile of the Youth Dance Development Course that Echo Echo will be running in partnership with the University of Ulster.

    The first stage of this course is underway with introductory dance sessions due to be held at secondary schools across the province in late November. Then there will be a week long course at Easter and a three week intensive course in summer 2009.

    The course, called Making Moves is aimed at 16- 18 year olds with a passion for performing, whether it's physical theatre, drama or dance. The course will be an insight into the professional world of performers, modelled on the practice of Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company.

    Participants of the summer course will receive accreditation from the University of Ulster to use if they decide to pursue the Performing Arts into Higher Education.

    Funding for the Youth Dance Development Course has been provided by the Clore Duffield Foundation through its Clore Performing Arts Awards.

  • Filming on Wednesday 8th October 2008

    Hey all,

    Just to remind you about the filming on Wed. I'm sure Steve told you but a production company for BBC is coming to film some youth dance for BBC Lifeline.

    It is mainly to promote the youth dance development course that Echo Echo will be doing this year in partnership with the University of Ulster. So they want to see some examples of teenagers who love to dance!

    Please make that special effort to attend because the movement will look much better if you're all there!

    Let me know.

    Also, those who haven't already - can you bring me the permission sheets in on Wednesday too please!
