Fish Tales
We have been really busy these past few weeks, and our anglers have been enjoying some great sport as the fishing has improved tremendously with the better weather. Indeed since the water started warming up (today it was 10 degrees, a good bit warmer than the norm for this time of year) we have witnessed some very large fish emerging from the depths where they have obviously successfully overwintered. Quite a few anglers have reported losing very big trout at the net, but for once Adrian Brown bucked the trend and landed his record breaking fish of 14lbs 7 oz, a real whopper. Since that we have had other big fish hooked and lost and fish of 8lbs and 7 pounds weight featuring among the catches.
In the evenings when the wind drops a little we have seen some great rises of fish, with some absolute thumpers heading and tailing as they feed on the surface. All in all it is a really encouraging indicator of the productivity of the water. Indeed a recent survey by EHS has established that for what they call an urban lake our water is in an extremely healthy and productive state! With so much fly life and surface activity already we are absolutely confident that come the summer months the fishing will be nothing short of excellent.
Small black lures and wet flies such as Black Pennells and Black Spiders have been doing well for some of our anglers, while buzzer patterns have also been doing well particularly the Shipman's in a variety of colours, especially orange. For those using standard lures the Sleech (olive green and black varieties) has been killing consistently.
