Keeping a friend means being a friend. Here are six steps to becoming someone others may count on.


STEP NUMBER 1 - Treat friends as you want to be treated.

Putting yourself in your friend's shoes is the first and biggest step towards a good friendship. Once you have this one down everything else gets sooooooo much easier!

Just think about what you want in a friend, and that person to others.

Some people say a friend is 'someone who looks after you. Someone who cheers you up when you are sad, supports you through tough times, keeps you happy and helps you through life'

Whereas others say a friend is someone who stays with you 'til the end, someone who is honest, reliable and patient.

Someone who can be trusted, listens carefully and keeps secrets'.

When you have a friend who is dealing with a tough situation, imagine what you would feel like if you were in his/her place. Think about what you would want a friend to do for you in a similar situation and then do exactly that for your friend. when you treat others the way you want to be treated, you become the best friend anyone could imagine.

'Treat others as you want them to treat you. This is what the Law and the Prophets are all about.'


STEP NUMBER 2 - Get Over The Groups

The quickest way to put the breaks on a relationship before the revs are even on is to think you are better than that other person. Maybe you are avoiding someone because he is not in the same group or clique, even though you know you could probably help him with something he is going through or just be his mate. You never know, his friendships might turn out to be priceless.


STEP NUMBER 3 - Be Slow To Point The Finger

When someone does something wrong, the first thing we often do is point the blame at them or someone else. Feel like finger-pointing? Hold up! First decide why you want to point out someone's flaws. Is it because you care about the person or is it because you feel superior when others slip up?
Even if a friend has done something wrong to you, trying to retaliate by painting that person in a bad light is just all wrong. you want to be a great friend, right? Well, a great friend wouldn't do that. When someone hurts you or does somethiing wrong, let your anger cool down before you do or say things you would not normally do or say. Remember, the way you treat others is often the way you will be treated in return! If you need to confront the person anout what they did, talk to them about it alone, not infront of the whole class. There are times, though, when it is necessary to tell others what happened especially if someone has physically hurt you or theatened you. Try talking to your parents or, yes, even a teacher. OR ME !!!!!!!!!!!

'Don't condemn others, and God wont condemn you. God will be as hard on you as you are on others! He will treat you exactly as you treat them.'


STEP NUMBER 4 - Be Secretive

A cool way to be a great friend is to do something really nice for them without them knowing. It's always fun to get a secret surprise from a friend and try to work out who the culprit is. And, if you do things without expecting to have roses thrown at you for it, one day you will get a better thanks than you ever imagined.
