  • Fuck the break, we're gigging

Last Thursday Ian and I saw our favourite band, 65daysofstatic, putting their heart and soul into their live show. Easily one of the greatest experiences of my life. Can't even find words to describe how good it was...

Last Friday, Eoghan and I drank gin with Cork friends and went to see Johnny Foreigner. There were ten people there, including the band. And it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to. Once again, I witnessed a band put everything they had into playing live, even though they had travelled all the way over to Ireland just to play to us seven people in Cork. We danced and screamed and sang our hearts out, in that room, with those guys, all because the band were giving it their all. It was inspiring.

I began to notice a pattern here. We need to get gigging again.

So we kicked it off last Saturday in Galway with Adebisi Shank. Out of practice, extremely tired, small crowd at the start, and giving it our all. We had loads of fun, which is exactly what we set out to do, so mission accomplished on that front. Big thanks to Tony, the Adebisi lads, and everyone that came out to see us!

Next on the agenda is The Quad next Friday (18th December) for a Christmas bash with Hooray for Humans. Very excited.

Plans for gigging have gone haywire. The plan was to take a break till 2010, while writing new tunes. New tunes are out the window, we'll squeeze them in whilst aiming to play everywhere and anywhere from now until whenever we die of exhaustion. A tour with our good friends in Kyon, a mini tour with more good friends KVX, and every other gig inbetween, 2010 is gonna be a good year. Keep an eye on the gigs section, typing all that here will cause me more of a headache and prevent me from studying for exams even further...

Hope to see all your faces in the front row.

  • Rocktober Part III - Mission Accomplished

A lot has happened in the past few weeks so I’m gonna have to be brief:

Where I left off, we had just finished round two with Maybeshewill. Next up was round three with Plinth – their Limerick EP launch. We were drafted in to replace Kyon (we seem to do a lot of replacing) and we didn’t really promote or anything. Low turnout in the end, but a good night nonetheless, our first time playing underground in Baker’s, and another good chance to see Plinth live. Also played with South, enjoyed their set as well.

Next on the agenda, we were called in as last minute addition to Director’s show in Glor. This was weird for us, huge venue, professional band, proper equipment, bright lights… not our usual for Ennis. Still, a great experience all in all. Delighted.

Day three involved our first trip to Dublin and one of our greatest, if not the greatest gig ever. There were 80+ people through the door on a Sunday night at 8.30 in Whelan’s, a massive hats off to Caroline for organising that one, AND asking us to play. Thanks to all the lads in Enemies for being heroes, the lads in And So I Watch You From Afar, personally Jonny in particular for letting me use his whole bass setup, the sound engineer for making ears bleed, and everyone that said nice things to us afterwards, it absolutely meant the world to us.

The following weekend we descended upon the monstrous indie music festival, Hard Working Class Heroes, to try and deafen more of Dublin. I missed some epic bands on Friday, bogged down with college work, only made it up Saturday about two hours before our set. Caught Kyon blowing the lid off the Twisted Pepper to kick Saturday in the face, followed by Yes Cadets, some lovely Northerners with solid tunes. Our set went off without a hitch, which is lucky, because if they had seen a C!ties set with the usual number of mistakes, we definitely wouldn’t be hearing back the good reviews we’re currently reading with disbelief. Dublin seems to like us, I’m still trying to round up all the press we’ve gotten directly as a result of our 25 minutes in Twisted Pepper. Mad.

The C!ties kitchen is very busy at the moment, taking a bit of a break but somehow finding ourselves planning more than ever before. Stay tuned.

P.S. A blog will be up soon with EVERYTHING we can find.

  • Rocktober Part II - Phase 1 Complete

    Raging success.

Cork last Friday - great fun, as are all our Cork adventures. New song went well enough. Mistakes, but that's to be expected from our first live performance of a 6 minute facemelter. As you can tell by that description of it, we're proud of it. It does mean lugging a floor tom around the place - but it's so fun. Plinth were unbelievable, in every sense of the word. Brought a very healthy crowd, and nicely filled out Cyprus Avenue, which is an excellent venue when it isn't empty.

Train home, return to Limerick for a Livewire extravaganza. Maybeshewill & co. were a little late, they missed a ferry - great start to a two month European tour guys - so things were a little rushed, and the running order had to be changed around so we were on first. However, thankfully Ennis was in attendance, and was adequately blocked, which made the whole ordeal a lot of fun. Death of London and Maybeshewill were both unreal, I'm just glad we got to see them for free, never mind playing with them. Post gig sessions were had, smiles all round, the lads carried on to conquer the rest of the continent.

This is what we looked like, only not as dark and distorted:

Next up, Plinth's Limerick EP launch, soundcheck in about half an hour. Psyched.

We're also delighted to announce a few new additions to our mismatched "tour".
Saturday 10th October w/ Director - Glor, Ennis
Friday 16th October @ Murray's - Fibber Magees - The Living Room TBC - Dublin
    Friday 30th October @ Dan's House (probably)

    Wahey.
