Many of you will know my cat, Bryan, has a weird obsession with one of those black fingerless gloves with a skeleton hand, which Bryan likes to carry around with him at times, and said glove can often been seen on my deck, or in the shrubbery/the patch of dirt with a plant growing out of it outside my front door. While I went out to feed my poor excuse of a cat this morning, I noticed a new item next to the glove, which was residing by his food bowl today. Upon closer inspection, it appeared that it was one of those wrist bands with black and white checkers, reminiscent of 12 year old individualism. I am compelled to wonder: where on earth is Bryan finding such things? Is that sneaky little bastard hiding behind the mail box, waiting to lurch out at poor, defenseless passerbys for their clothing? Are people giving them to him in hopes of making my cat alternative? Is he trying to complete an entire outfit? I really wuldn't be surprised if I found a boom box outside my back door blasting Atreyu/Slipknot/bands against pre-teen oppression next time I went to feed the damn creature.

I will end this blog entry with this statement: Grow the fuck up Bryan, you stupid wemo cat.

With every spoonful it makes me involuntarily gag. I'd rather my starch consumption not be in paste form. That said, I have no problem with fake mash.

As we all may have heard by now, a 13 year old boy is now a father to what could quite possibly be the cutest baby ever. Campbell Live did a piece about young parents, to which people gave feedback. One item of feedback was from a woman who was generally saying that she did not agree with the teen parents (who appeared on the show) who were still in school and university, while she, as the tax payer, had to pay for their child to be raised. I find that comment to be absurdly naive and biased.

The first point is, if the parents are young enough to still be attending school/university, it would figure that one, if not both of them, were still living at home. Financial assistance would be available from parents one would assume. My assumption may be incredibly off the mark, but to suggest otherwise would also be so. Opinion should not be provided as factual evidence.

Consider financial assistance from the government. Yes, that is taxpayers money going towards them. Yes, they could drop out of school/uni, get a job and earn the money to support their child. Alas, they are not. The parents have chosen to FURTHER their education, which in turns leads to better career opportunities and higher salaries, rather than packing groceries at $13 an hour for the rest of their life. They will CONTRIBUTE to society. When you retire lady, who do you think will be paying for your superannuation? Oh, you could argue that you've already paid your dues. And in turn, these teenagers will pay theirs in the future. Why do other people deserve government funding more so than others? I am given the impression of "human rights apply to everybody.. apart from teen parents". The problem of people not getting off their asses and getting a job far outweighs young people who have children.

Why are teenagers who choose to have children treated as degenerates?T he legal age to have sex here in New Zealand is 16. If we go with the ideas of nature, sex equals pro-creation. Would this law not be saying it is acceptable to conceive at 16? Yet many people object to this idea, that teenagers themselves are children themselves and not mature enough to handle the responsibilities of parenthood. These people forget, here in New Zealand we have a great healthcare system. The option whether to have the child or not is readily available. If a teenager chooses to go through with the pregnancy, who is society to deem whether they are ready or not?

Back in the day women my age would be conceiving their second child by now. Yes, times have changed, what with liberating woman. They can take on high status jobs, compared to back in the 50s where the highest position avaliable for a woman was to be a secretary. It is socially acceptable to be successful. Yet if a young woman chooses to be a mother, she is heavily critisized. Society sees teenage parents as irresponsible for putting such a burden on them, the taxpayer.

On the solution to bring down teenage pregnancy and parenthood: Many will agree that sexual awareness and education of these matters need to be raised. Only problem, teenagers are very well aware of the implications of sex. We are taught from a young age that sex, in the form of a mummy and daddy, makes babies. We all know this.

I am not saying that I agree with all teenagers who have children, nor am I condoning it. Many can be irresponsible and psychologically immature to raise them. It is a problem that needs to be tackled. In the mean time, I would just like people to be a little less close minded when judging others by their choices. You cannot make such an assumption and apply it to all people. The only way to properly assess a situation without passing prior judgement is to look at each individual case seperately. To the young parents in question, I commend them for sticking through and continuing their education, even after having a child.
