What a year for CentreStage.

We started the year with our sell-out panto production of Snowwhite.com in the LIT Millennium Theatre and then opened our new studio space CentreSPACE with rehearsals for Limerick Musical Societies production of The King and I. This was hotly followed by rehearsals for out new youth Theatre Company, CYT and their production of Les Miserables in UCH. This was a fantastic success, received rave reviews from the capacity audience, and a standing ovation! This was followed with a production of ‘Losing Elysum’ directed by Richie Ryan, a new play in CentreSPACE. In May we hosted ‘4BLOODY Plays’ a Sunday night series of play readings with Limerick’s newest theatre company Bottom Dog. We then produced a new short play ‘Cash is King’ written and directed by Richie Ryan for the LCEB. This was followed by our production of ’The Little Shop of Horrors, rehearsed in CentreSPACE and performed in UCH. We also produced ‘Jack and The Beanstalk, performed in UCH. We then produced ‘ELEMENTS’ a night of drama excerpts with our adult students. That was all before the summer.

During the summer we produced in ‘LETS SING – Showcase in CentreSPACE. This was followed by ‘DANCE & DRAMA Showcase and then we had ‘High School Musical’ for the tots in UCH. Our summer schools were a tremendous success as we produced ‘Grease’ and ‘The Lion King’ with hundreds of energetic students in UCH. After our busy summer schools, CentreStage then produced another new play ‘Firefighting’ written and directed by Richie Ryan for LCEB swiftly followed by rehearsals for the hugely successful ‘It’s Hollywood’ with the Limerick Musical Society. We then proceeded with a play reading of ‘Walnuts remind me of my Mother’ and an interactive evening with ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ in CentreSPACE. Our Youth Theatre was up again with a great production of ‘A Night at the Musicals’ and Limerick Musical Society was back in rehearsals for ‘Seasons Greetings’. We then produced another new play ‘Bah Humbug’ for the LCEB and started into rehearsals for ‘ALADDIN’.

Yes, that’s twenty six productions in 12 months. That does not include our participation in the Limerick, St Patricks Day Parade or the CentreStage Kids and Teens taking part in the Share A Dream Gala Ball. We also hosted Dance Workshops, TV & Film Classes, Dance Classes, Acting Classes, Singing Lessons, Doras Luimni, UL (BA) Dance Workshops, Cantette Rehearsals, SEODA rehearsals, County Youth Choir rehearsals, rehearsals for Limerick’s Strictly Come dancing and rehearsals for the band ‘Better Than You’. We formed a new theatre group CentreSPACE Players, who are currently holding open play readings every Tuesday evening.

This type of output would not be possible without the co-operation, enthusiasm and commitment from hundreds of people.

2010 looks even busier! Rehearsals are about to start for ‘FIDDLER ON THE ROOF’ with limerick Musical Society. CYT will present ‘CHESS-in Concert in February and a production of RENT in April. CentreSPACE Players are planning a production in May and our weekly classes are about to restart. We will also host some very interesting workshops during the year.
