close About Me
- Me, Myself, and I
- Hi there. I'm Cassandra Clare. I'm a writer living in Brooklyn, New York.
My first book, City of Bones, was published by WALKER BOOKS in July, 2007. It's the first in a young adult urban fantasy trilogy called The Mortal Instruments. The second book, City of Ashes, is OUT THIS MONTH and the third, City of Glass, is due out in 09.
Both City of Bones and its sequel have been New York Times bestsellers, and City of Bones is shortlisted for the Locus Award for Best First Novel.

Movie news!
http://cassandraclare.livejournal.co...
The film rights to The Mortal Instruments have been optioned by Unique Features. This is a film production company set up by former founders and co-presidents of New Line Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne, who oversaw the production of the Lord of the Rings movies — probably my favorite fantasy movies of all time. They're very dedicated to fantasy and they understand it, and I definitely trust them with the story of the Mortal Instruments.
Now, a book series being optioned doesn't mean a film is being made right now or is definitely going to be made at all — it means that the studio or production company in question is developing the books as a film project — right now they've nailed down financing and a screenwriter (I don't know who that is yet) and are working towards the next stages in the development project (they do not yet have a casting director so there is NO CASTING NEWS OR INFORMATION). It is, however, an important step in the movie-making process, so I feel like it's okay to be excited about it.

2) Walker Books is also running a "have lunch with the author!" (me, in this case) contest. You can enter it at http://www.walker.co.uk/cityofglass-... if you're located in the UK/Ireland. While I am puzzled that anyone would want to spend that much time with me, I promise to 1) give you spoilers and 2) pay for lunch, so there is that.
3) Yes, I am aware that the cover of City of Glass does not match the previous UK editions of Bones and Ashes. They, too, have been redesigned, and now match the American covers. (You can see them by clicking through to the competition link above if inclined.) I have gotten some sad emails from people whose sets of books now will not match. I sympathize, but this is one of those things about the book industry. You are always at risk of a redesign. Especially when a particular cover associated with a book has been either particularly successful or has become iconically associated with that book in some way — the American covers are the ones overwhelmingly used to market my books in every country in the world with the exceptions of Poland and Germany. So just to say, while the cover change wasn't my decision, I get why they did it and I'm basically for it, with apologies to those who are now going to have slightly off-kilter sets. On the plus side, perhaps the old covers will become collector's items.
4) And lastly, in honor of the UK release of the final book in the MI trilogy, I've put up a bunch of deleted scenes from Glass on my website. I'll be adding more throughout the rest of the year. Check them out!
