- Taking place over 3 days in the glorious environs of De Montfort Hall, Leicester, Summer Sundae Weekender is a music festival unlike any other – filled with musical acts both legendary and upcoming, stuffed with a range of performances that run the full spectrum of the arts, adhering proudly to a staunchly green ethos, and, most importantly, unpredictable, free-wheeling and exciting. Since its inception in 2001 it has grown to become one of the UK’s best-loved festivals, and now, in its 9th year, promises to be the most fun-packed installment yet.

We are very excited about the first SSW announcements...yes indeed we are
Hat on the head… a cool drink enjoyed on the grass…a buzz of anticipation in the air …yes, yes, the swoonsome music festival extravaganza that is Summer Sundae Weekender is nigh once again, and this year we are more excited than ever to babble on about our incredible headliners!
To kick off proceedings in high style, everyone’s favourite Brummie rapper Mike Skinner, aka The Streets is set to get the Weekender off to a rousing start with his distinctive blend of pop suss, urban cool and lyrical genius. Another musical heavyweight arrives on Saturday, when the much-loved legends The Charlatans return to the live arena to reclaim their shiny pop throne. And, to round things off, Sunday sees not one, but two amazing headliners – The Zutons, who have long enthralled audiences with their beautifully whimsical, madly addictive art-pop, and folk maestro Bon Iver, who crafted one of the most heartbreakingly perfect albums of 2008 with “For Emma, Forever Ago”. And that’s before we even get to the other brilliant bands we can announce – the white hot and rapidly ascendant First Aid Kit, Beanyman, Baddies and Kabeedies. Yes indeed, almost makes you wish it was August already, doesn’t it…

In addition, Summer Sundae have also been famed for cherry picking the cream of the new band crop, with such grade-A, high calibre, tender young talent like Noah and the Whale, Kate Nash, Young Knives and many others gracing its stages long before anywhere else, and this year is, naturally, no exception. So get yourself down and get acquainted with the varied yet tasty likes of First Aid Kit, Baddies, Kabeedies and Beardyman, as perfect an opportunity as any to tell your friends, “Yes, well, I heard them at Summer Sundae first” when they inevitably become huge.
