    University research projects

A researcher from Reading University has been working with several U-Too young couples as part of a year-long investigation into the lives of young parents in rural areas. Phoebe is a young mother herself so is well aware of the pressures that come with parenthood. Here she is with Tash, Pat and Harley in Melksham after a three hour visit to Trowbridge College where Tash and Pat are now both enrolled on courses - but not before some major hassles involving complications around benefits and travel costs.

Phoebe is also seeing Dan and Zuzu in Salisbury, Damian and Gemma in Westbury, Will and Aurora in Trowbridge, Stuart and Leia in Melksham, and Josh and Terri in Calne. We are looking forward to seeing the results of her research in due course.

Another researcher, based at King's College, London but working for the Government Office South West, has interviewed Chris in Calne as part of her study about lifestyles and young fatherhood.

    Healthy Eating!

Last night Anthony was preparing his gourmet version of spag bol. Here he is with his FRESH ingredients, including mince, chopped onions and green pepper. It's always a bit of a trial for me to go round to see him and Chelsey in the evening, as I don't get home to eat till after I've seen them, because there are usually mouth-watering smells wafting out of their kitchen.

    CSJ DVD

I've just been sent some copies of these so I'll be giving one to Den and Will, who both appeared in the film, and one to Marcus who went to the award ceremony. If anyone else is interested in a copy, let me know.

X Baby Cakes Lil Mummyx by X Baby Cakes Lil Mummyx
The blog was started in November 2007 at the beginning of the Dads-Matter-Too film-making project (by Jackie Calderwood, film-maker & media artist) as a way for all involved to communicate to a wider audience - YOU!
The Dads want to tell as many people as possible (health-care providers, educators, politicians, other dads and young people) about their concerns, experiences and opinions.
    (See the post: http://dads-matter-too.blogspot.com/... )

Here at the end of February '08 the filming's nearly done - interviews, discussions, dads with their children, doing first aid, swimming, baby-massage, and lots more.

Now the editing process starts - and Dads will be learning how to edit, making music for the soundtrack, and designing the print for the discs, boxes and publicity, in a series of media skills workshops we're hoping to run (subject to various funding bids submitted by Dads from the group).

You can follow the process to date, successes and challenges, and see lots of pictures taken from the video footage, on this blog - just scroll down or click on any of the links in the Blog Archive below.

We'd love to hear from YOU too!
Add a comment, or send a comment with your email address in it (email addresses wont be shown on the blog) for an invite to join us and post your own info about
    Dads matters.

And now, September 2008, the DVD is out with nearly 200 copies in circulation, press and TV interest, and the new Dads Matter Too Calendar 2009 also ready for distribution. Well done everyone for making this such a great project and really getting the message out that Dads Matter Too!
    More about...
Dads who've been on the U-Too young fathers courses have helped to fundraise and plan this film-making project. Well done Gareth and John for getting the film-making project off the ground, and Marcus for leading the bid to extend into a series of media workshops.

The blog tracks the process to date, including the film launch and other successes along the way.

Anyone is welcome to add a comment, or contact Jackie, the blog administrator, if you'd like an invite to add posts.
