Summer Issue 2009
Welcome to the Summer issue of End of Term. For many of you, this will be the last issue you’ll see before you leave school and head off into the big wide world of further/higher education, training or work! We’ll miss you all and wish you every success with your future endeavours!
On a happier note, we’d like to thank all of our End of Term Agents who have helped to create this issue; from reviewing the latest films and attending gigs to giving us their views on high street shopping! If you’d like to be involved in the next issue, turn to page 7 to see how you can become an EoT Agent!
This is also your last chance to enter our amazing competition to win a gap year in Australia! Turn to page 17 for details on how to enter and you could find yourself living, working and travelling down under for a whole year!
As usual End of Term is packed with useful information to help you make informed decisions about your future. We explore the career prospects in Maths and Science, and look at courses in Video Production and life in the Armed Forces. We also take a closer look at the Apprenticeships on offer across Scotland – oh, not to forget, we have a handy Uni Union Guide to help you make that all - important decision on which University (bar) you want to attend.
In addition to this, we have an exclusive interview with the Scot that every guy wants to be and every girl wants to be with – Ewan McGregor! And we chat with recent Celebrity Apprentice contestant, Michelle Mone. If that’s not enough, we bring you the latest on the hottest festivals to attend this year – including some free tickets!
We also have some great tips for your gap year (from those wonderful people at the Financial Ombudsman), a guide to any resits you may have and, most importantly girls, great ideas for looking your best at your Prom – without breaking the bank! Well, without breaking the bank of Mum and Dad!
We hope you enjoy this issue of End of Term. Have a great summer holiday and, if you’re back at school in August, see you then!
All the best!

Hello!
Welcome to the Spring issue of End of Term magazine! And what an incredible issue we have in store for you!
It looks like we’re finally leaving behind the dismal Winter weather and, with Spring upon us, we’re hoping for some much needed sunshine! Speaking of sunshine... how would you like to win an all expenses paid gap year in Australia?
We thought you might!!! Turn to page 28 for full details on how you can win the trip of a lifetime – you could find yourself living and working in Australia for a whole year! Don’t say we’re not good to you.
In addition to this fabulous competition, we have some amazing music reviews, amusing interviews and general editorial shenanigans, all contributed by our trusty End of Term Agents! We also recently had Lauren Macready from The Rudolf Steiner School join us for a week of work experience at the End of Term HQ. Lauren was a great help to this issue, we had her interviewing bands, writing articles and attending gigs. You’ll find her fantastic work throughout the magazine!
We would also like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who has contributed to this issue and if you are not already an End of Term Agent turn to page 7 to find out how you can get involved!
If you’re struggling with career choices, End of Term has some informative articles on careers ranging from Retail to the Armed Forces. We also take a look at the Music Industry which lets us catch up with ‘star in the making’, Carrie MacDonald to get an insight into life as a singer/songwriter.
It doesn’t stop there! This issue includes an interview with Snow Patrol frontman, Gary Lightbody. We catch up with Matt Groening – creator of everyones favourite adult cartoon – The Simpsons! We also took the time to amuse ourselves and make Simpsons characters of the End of Term team! Visit www.simpsonmovie.com/main to create your own characters, it’ll provide you with hours of entertainment!
We’ve also arranged competitions to win rugby tickets to see Edinburgh Rugby play Cardiff Blues at Murrayfield on 3rd April (see opposite) and we’ve teamed up with Glasgow Young Scot to bring you the opportunity to get involved with the City Sounds event on 21st June in Kelvingrove Park. If you would like the opportunity to perform on stage in front of music industry scouts, and the chance to record your own CD then turn to page 31 for more information on how to get involved!
We hope you enjoy this issue of End of Term and wish you luck with the amazing Australia competition!

Hello!
Well whay can we say, it is nearly Christmas again! The season of parties, presents and probably studying for most of you, preparaing for any up and coming exams! But fear not, End of Term is here to help, we had 17 year old Niloo Far Khan - a 6th year student from Drummond Community High School - visit the End of Term office for a couple of days to help out with some features. Niloo has put together a great page of tips for exam stress, from eating bananas while listening to classical music to carrying lucky charms!
We also want to say a huge thank you to all the students involved in this issue of the magazine! Following our 'Search for a Music Journalist', that featured in the last issue, we were inundated with entries and you will see the lucky students dotted throughout the magazine with album reviews, concert experiences and one lucky girl, Jess Swift, got the chance to interview Leon! If you want to get involved in writing articles, reviewing bands, photographing school events or fancy popping in for some work experience at End of Term simply contact ros@end-of-term.co.uk and you could find yourself featured in the next issue.
With all the work the students have contributed to this issue, we thought we better do some work ourselves! So, where better to start than by interviewing Scotland's hottest band of the moment, Glasvegas! We caught up with drummer, Caroline (who is one of the nicest people we have ever interviewed), and had a chat aout their new found fame, recordingin New York and Irn Bru!
Next we attended the Scotcampus Fresher's Festival in George Square, Glasgow and pretended to be studentsfor the day to get lots of free stuff! This is a great event if you want to get an idea of what student life holds for you, not to mention the great line up of bands they had playing - we catch up with Attic Lights (check the blog). Check out the Scotcampus picture album, we have have a picture with Coolio!
And most importantly we have put together a great selection of career features including, going green with an environmental career, what a job in nursing can offer you, returning to school as a teacher and we look at where a degree in art can lead you. Or if you fancy having a break before you launch into the world of work or more education check out our gap year article to see what New Zealand has in store for you! In addition to this, we caught up with some recently graduated fashion designers who offer their experiences on embarking on a career in designing and we get an insight from 1st year student Jazzanne McMillan, on her first day of college, how the work load is and most importantly how the nightlife is!
To get your hands on your own copy of End of Term email ros@end-of-term.co.uk or leave us a messageand we will add you to our mailing list.
Thanks
