ANNIE NIGHTINGALE - RADIO 1's first lady hits Belfast :: THUR 5 MAR @ MISH MASH!!
Annie Nightingale (66) is best known as Britain’s first female DJ on Radio 1. She is now the station’s longest serving broadcaster. She remains the only female DJ in the world to have been honoured with an MBE by The Queen....and she arrives for a much anticipated Belfast gig on Thursday 5th March...
Her career has been a fantastical musical journey beginning with hanging out with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Who, becoming a journalist and TV presenter, and being a co-owner of a chain of fashion boutiques. Having cracked the all male preserve of djs at Radio 1, she began a long career in broadcasting, always choosing her own music, and championing dozens of artists who later became world wide successes.
Then a second career in television began when she took over as solo presenter of BBC TV’s legendary series The Old Grey Whistle Test, recently voted top music programme in The 100 Best TV Shows of all time.
Annie brought her irreverent humour to the show at exactly the time of the punk revolution. She has always played and enthused about underground and new music, and through her championing of breakbeat, she is now known as Queen Of Breaks. She djs at clubs and festivals all over the world, with concomitant scrapes and adventures. She has been bugged in Russia, drugged in Iraq and mugged in Cuba, the last with nearly fatal consequences.
Annie has written two autobiograpical books:, 'Chase the Fade', and more recently 'Wicked Speed', of which the foreword was written by Trainspotting’s Irvine Welsh. She is known an an energetic party animal and claims to be most proud of winning Muzik Magazine’s 'Caner Of The Year', among other Awards which include being the first female DJ to be inducted in the Radio Academy Hall Of Fame.
She has travelled to some of the world’s hotspots including Russia, China, India and Chile, making radio programmes and documentary films, and djs in Paris, Los Angeles, New York, Barcelona, and has also appeared in Serbia and Poland as well as continuing to tour extensively around the UK. She has been on the road with some of the world’s most notorious rock bands such as Primal Scream, The Who and The Rolling Stones, was once ship’s DJ on the QE2, and motor raced at Silverstone and Brand’s Hatch as part of a Radio 1 racing team. She has broadcast from Ibiza,, Miami, Berlin, Bucharest, Prague, been a runway model at a Paris fashion show, and once appeared in a soft porn movie: “I kept my clothes on, though” she commented.
Her two compilation albums, Annie On One, and Y4K: Annie Nightingale Presents have both received critical acclaim.
She is currently working with BBC TV to make a series about her unique life though music, and all its inherent shenanigans. Its been quite a trip!

THURSDAY 6TH DECEMBER :: RADIO 1's JAYMO & ANDY GEORGE!!!
Their performances have won them an army of fans, most notably in the form of super-producer Kissy Sell Out - who nominated them as his favourite new DJs as part of the BBC Introducing Tour 2008.
In April, Jaymo & Andy Georgebecame two of the youngest people to ever record a live Essential Mix for Radio 1 - quickly catching the attention of the stations bosses.
Fast forward four months and the duo have their very own show on Radio 1 "IN NEW DJs WE TRUST, and prepare to take their sound global! Crafted with the sole intention of fronting the world’s coolest music, the show promises to be as fun and unpredictable as their rumbustious DJ sets!
As producers Jaymo & Andy have been responsible for some massive dance-floor bombs! Andy’s ‘Big Dipper’ was one of 2008’s most popular jump-up Electro tracks, prompting a flurry of remixes for scene-leaders Crookers, Lord Skywave, Toddla T & Jokers Of The Scene.
Jaymo, however, first came to the attention of the music world with his Hip Hop infused ‘Tuned In Live’. With support from DJ Touche, Boy 8 Bit & Crookers he quickly found himself delivering remixes for the likes of Skint & Data, whilst notching up worldwide compilation appearances.
With countless gigs at the worlds coolest clubs and an ever-growing discography of heavy-duty club tracks, it’s hard to predict where these boys will be in another 2 years!

MISH MASH present Battlejam with JFB & Beardyman
It's not often in Belfast you get to hear a UK beatbox champion and DMC champion in the same lineup, and certainly not for less than a fiver. Bring forth the 27th November when JFB (2007 UK DMC champion) and Beardyman (2006/2007 UK beatbox champion) hit Mish Mash with a scratch-scratch-bang. BattleJam is about improvised sounds; they sample the crowd, either en-mass or individually and make a tune out of it live, by scratching it and manipulating it in before your very ears. No-one knows what's going to happen until it does at Battlejam, not even the performers themsleves.
Their appearances include Graham Norton, Channel 4, MTV and Radio 1. Beardyman has been working on Groove Armada's latest album and the boys have appeared alongside many international acts such as Andy C, Grooverider, Shy FX, Fatboy Slim and Jazzy Jeff.
These very talented individuals developed their skills together in the seaside town of Brighton and have went on to become international gurus in their niche markets. The opportunity to hear them "Battlejam" is always a special occasion as they bounce off each other like a school boy tag team back in the playground...and you're allowed to join in the fun.
