With his men around him forming a human shield from the machine gun bullets and taken to O`Moore St. After Pearse surrendered the GPO connolly was arrested and later executed sitting in a chair as he was too badly injured to stand . As a priest tried to pray over him he asked him instead to pray for the men who were about to execute him
