BEBO SPAMS ON PURPOSE & THEY DON'T GIVE A DAMN
Here is the first part of a letter I decided to write to Bebo. It contains ideas I had about the amount of spam on their site, so I thought I'd send it to them and see what kind of response I got.
Hello.
I would like to address concerns I have about the way you handle abuse reports.
I recently reported a few pornographic spam profiles, and received a "Report Processed" email back rather quickly (an hour or so later). I decided to go back to the profile to see what had been done. It would appear that all you have done with these obviously fake, pornographic profiles, is remove their default image, as the profile is still there and still giving me the same message - "Looks like you're not friends with this person yet and their profile is set to private. To see their full profile, invite them to be your friend on Bebo." (also a bit funny how every spam profile now needs to be added to your friends list before you can see it, wouldn't you say?)
I know that you cannot discuss details regarding each individual case, but my concerns lie with every case similar to this (and boy, there are a lot).
I would like to say that I think Bebo has become utterly unenjoyable to visit now, or even remain an inactive member of, mainly due to these aggravating and quite constant emails I get in my inbox of so-called friend requests or private mails, all from these pathetic and sexually degrading profiles. It is quite sad that every area of the internet world, not just the adult entertainment area, chooses to be so completely driven by pornographic images, and even more sad that it is so tolerated and that those who do speak out against it are instantly labeled as prudes, or as anti-sex, or as hateful.
But the thing I think is the most pathetic about it, is when websites claim to be all about connecting people when they start out, and claim to want to "keep clean", then don't actually seem to DO MUCH OF ANYTHING to stop or even prevent their site from being taken over by these profiteering degenerates. When they know that there is more than adequate technology to do this, and yet, they don't seem to use it. I wonder which is the most beneficial to gaining profit and money to host a free-to-join website as massively popular as Bebo (more hits than Google in Ireland I hear....)? Would it be: implementing such technology onto the site and working to stop it, or allowing and working with these "harmless" webcam/porn/sexy babe bots to create profiles using images always of women, and send incessant mails and friend requests to probably every single member of the site, promoting their business in a big way? Seems like a no-brainer. I mean, who's gonna complain about a bit of tit, right?
ALL I received in response to this was a default reply with a list of the Bebo terms of service.

Here is the second part of the letter I sent to them (had to send it in two parts due to their character limit on the contact form):
I have also contacted you before in regards to another few issues, and all I received in response were vague/default replies that never once changed except for the name of the person supposedly sending them. They claimed these issues were "temporary errors" with the site and that they would be working to resolve the problem as soon as possible (and yeah, it was that long ago that I no longer have the ticket numbers). Temporary errors? No. Only the moronic direction your advertising was taking with the "featured albums" and polls that suddenly started appearing beside every single photo or photo album, glorifying debutant celebrities and encouraging people to vote on who is the "hottest". Sponsored groups like "pixnay", and obvious (though you tried hard to be subtle) army propaganda with personal profiles from members of the Royal Air Force on the homepage. other than that just been surviving as best i can, hopefully goin to t in the park tomorrow but haven't got bus tickets through so i'm just gonna go to the bus station tomorrow and show them the letter sayin i should have them, worst comes to the worst i'll get ramo to buy em in exchange for his ticket lol. aw also he was tellin me about this mad festival he was at called beat herder, it's like all the people who run free parties and soundsystems n shit got together and arranged it, it's like a massive soundsystem in the middle of a forest playin techno, trance, dubstep, reggae and suchlike, he got a bottle of whisky and poured liquid acid and mdma into it and went around on a mad rampage lol, also apparently ketamine and acid is a good combo, which i may have to indulge myself in...

as for me, i'm not too shabby, had some random woman over at the flat the other day claiming to be from this game design course i enquired about aaages ago, she seemed to take more details than were really needed though, like my passport number n shit and i was so feckin tired when she came over that i didn't really think it was dodgy till afterwards. kinda worried it all might be a scam now, like she got me to sign loadsa shit and was sayin that she couldn't come back but to let her know if i wanted her to send it off or not before monday... maybe it's just my ridiculous paranoia but it seemed kinda suspicious, got my bank card changed and the police didn't seem to think i had anything to worry about so hopefully it's just me bein mad.

i am indeed rather damp, although thankfully in the flat it's always quite cool even when it's stupidly warm outside... although it does mean I occasionally miss out on really nice days cause I just can't tell what it's like outside lol. found a live wire last night so I'm a bit worried about that, our landlord's fucked off to america for a month as well so it doesn't look like it's gonna be fixed anytime soon :S

The party is on the 27th June and is called VIP Club.
Local DJ's to be confirmed will be spinning House, Electro, Minimal and Progressive. Visual projections by spiral and featuring The Fresh Soundsystem, also lighting and lasers.
The event will be held in a really cool small intimate venue, it features dance room, lounge and indoor smoking area!, it is located in Belfast city center, the exact location can only be given to ticket holders.
