- Thomas Tantrum are a female fronted four piece from Southampton who are one of 2008’s most exciting and intriguing new bands. Their new single ‘Swan Lake’ is a glorious and brilliantly quirky slice of indie power pop. Their last two singles ‘Armchair’ and ‘Shake It, Shake It’ met with rave reviews and love from tastemakers such as Steve Lamacq and John Kennedy. Having made waves last year with a series of spell binding live shows, Thomas Tantrum have drawn musical comparisons as diverse as Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, PJ Harvey and Sonic Youth.

New Thomas Tantrum Song
hi everyone,
thought we'd post one of the new songs we've been working on on our myspace page (myspace.com/thomastantrum). We wrote this a few months ago without meaning to. We were tired in rehearsals one day and had given up being productive with our time. I was really ill too and was lying, sprawled on the floor and Dave and Jim were messing around with weird feedback and things with me just playing lazy chords over the top until some sort of melodic sense seemed to come out of it. I think it's the first song we've ever written where the lyrics came off the top of my head as I was singing them. It's about someone I hadn't seen in a while and was missing. And then Dave Wade Brown started singing an offbeat backing vocal behind my words on the chorus which sounded amazing. And it came out like this. It is strange because it doesn't sound like anything else we've ever written before. And it also certainly doesn't sound like any of the other songs we've been writing. I really like this one though. I don't think it's a new direction, just something that came out of nowhere one day.

Thomas Tantrum are back in the studio, forthcoming shows.
Hey,
We just got back from the first week's recording since I joined the band and it was fun times. The songs sound amazing, the atmosphere in the studio was perfect; Rick, who is producing, and his family are so relaxed and down to earth and the countryside is such a welcome relief from the hectic life in down town Southampton haha. There are some pictures on our facebook page i think. We're back into the pratice studios tomorrow to continue writing.
The Great Escape (Brighton) is coming up and it's gonna be fun, I know. We're playing on May 16th at Hector's House. Not sure about stage times yet but come down!!
Lots of love to everyone,
Dave x x x
P.S.
I (Megan) just wrote a blog but realised Dave Wade has too so I'll just add on to the end of this one . . . .
Alright gang,
Here's a video thing we made when we were in Yorkshire last week. We have recorded four new songs so far so watch this space!
