MSBA Septemder 13 2009
Well done again! A great competition just passed, gathering people from further afield, this time we welcomed students from Newcastle as well as from all over Scotland.
Thanks to everyone who helped set up and make the event happen, especially Ricky in West Lothian College, in his 70's and still working away. Thanks for all your help.
The standards were high and all students were a credit to their schools in the way they competed. Team events were some of my highlights, the junior team from Queensferry doing Chon Ji aged 6! The team sparring was great to watch as well.
The competition started with one of Master Sutherlands favourite events, traditional sparring. Mark McGeachie and Sean Whelan treated the crowd to their traditional sparring display, it was excellent and inspiring. Good luck for Argentina where the boys will be representing Scotland in the Event.
South Queensferry Won the overall School award with an incredible 30 medals in all events, beating Bathgate (2nd) and Muireston (3rd) a complete table is listed below;
1 - South Queensferry
2 - Bathgate
3 - Muireston
4 - Broxburn
5 - Livingston
6 - Montrose
7 - Linlithgow
8 - Howden
9 - Newcastle
10- Inverurie
11- Forres
12- Leith
13- Forfar
Well done again to all students, keep putting in the hard work and we will see you again next spring!

MSBA Colour Belt Open Championships
Sunday 3rd May saw the first MSBA Open Championships.
A great competition was held within West Lothian’s newly built collage.
Junior and senior competitors from 17 schools, some as far away as Inverness, Inverurie and Forres battled it out for gold in some tough divisions. We had junior and senior individuals and team events and mixed continuous sparring for over 13 years with Taekwondo-do and Korean Kickboxing students going head to head.
The divisions were competitive but the attitudes were first class. With some senior officials commenting on the great spirit and etiquette shown by the competitors.
All in all a great day was had by all 180 competitors and over 300 spectators can’t wait till it’s even bigger and better on Sunday September 13th, see you there.
We would like to thank all competitors for entering and competing with the right spirit, also a massive thanks to all the umpires who gave up there time to help make it happen, thanks also to WL Collage for given us access to such wonderful facilities and to everyone who helped set up the event. Thank You

Systema, January 25th!
Systema
The system is an easy to learn martial art that is ideal for people with or without martial experience. Students range from every day workers, students and is used by people that uphold the law. The system is a very practical and unique form of self-defence. It is also a very practical form of defense for women as it doesn't rely on strength or aggression.
Systema originates in the Special Opperations Unit (SOU) from within the Russian Spetsnaz (SAS equivalent) so you know that what you are learning is effective and practical. But it has a philosophy of non-aggression and teaches students to maintain control and a calm demeanour in the face of adversity.
Systema also has a lot of health practices to promote ligament and joint strenght, mobility and the ability to improve your health over all through a range of unique exercises.
Systema covers all aspects of combat including: punching and kicking, grappling, fighting from the ground, multiple attackers, knife and other weapon defense as well as the psychology of combat and conflict.
