  • Cork Midsummer Festival's Programme 2009

Taking place from the 13th – 28th June, the Cork Midsummer Festival will bring the best in popular contemporary arts and performance to the city of Cork this summer. From the European Premiere of Dance Marathon, the participatory dance show that is taking the world by storm, where people can dance the night away at this fun and fantastic show based on the dance marathons of the 1930s; through to Corcadorca’s highly anticipated new work medEia, a retelling of the Greek tragedy Medea, weaving the poetic language of the original text with pop culture images and lyrics from bands including Joy Division, The Beatles and Madonna; there really will be a unique experience to appeal to all your senses.

Acclaimed Belgian Theatre Company Victoria (Campo), will be working with the festival on the participatory project Out Of Order, in which local Cork Youth with no experience in theatre will create an extraordinary group portrait of their own experiences.

The festival will open and close with two very exciting family events, the AIB Street Performance World Championship will visit Cork for the first time this year, with 31 world-class street performers descending on Fitzgerald’s Park for a free weekend of fun, whilst the Cork gourmet delights will be on offer on the closing Sunday, with an inaugural food Feasta featuring the best of local artisan produce.

The Irish Examiner Spiegeltent will once again present an ecclectic mix of music and laughter.
